My big takeaway at the moment is Bibi's reaction. He's treating this like a policing issue. It's a war - Israel is facing organized opposition and terror. He needs to systematically dismantle every enemy faction, shut down organizations that promote terror (e.g. news stations), and, if the Palestinian political factions won't stop this, replace them. This is all very simple, and entirely in accordance with millennia of moral and legal precedent. Instead, his reaction is analogous to Obama's treatment of terrorism. Remember his argument that terrorism should be treated like a law enforcement issue? That's Bibi's de facto reaction at the moment, his rhetoric notwithstanding. The longer he leaves this issue alone, the more likely Israelis will become radicalized themselves due to the failure of their elected government. |
