What do people look for when selecting a suitable Avatar?
The reason I ask this question is simple - when selecting your Avatar what were you hoping it would say about who you are? I mean, we have Angels, movie-stars (Robert Duvall, Harpo Marx) Goats, an Octpus etc. etc. in our midst. Seeing how I'm the one asking this question, I suppose I should go first - the first one I chose depicted a somewhat pleasant-looking, innocent and rather angelic lass which, at the time, I thought would go rather well with my moniker. However with each post that I wrote the replies I received suggested that I was more "naive" than anything else - so I looked to see what else was available and came across the one which I am using now, which says (a) this is how I look (a truer likeness I could not possibly have found), (b) I'm not the mindless/naive person which you thought I was, and (c) [in a friendly but firm manner] "don't mess with me"!!

So what do you think your Avatar says about you?

dont get me wrong, i like your av, its tasteful and nice to look at and has a good feel to it, but it is a female right? not that there is anything wrong with a guy having a female on his av, there isnt, it was just the part that you thought it resembled you that was wierd, dont go and change it or nothing, it is already you, you wouldnt even need a title above the pic and everyone would know who you are.
(btw i think most hot chick avs are really guys, i mean what kinda girl puts on a dynomite av with huge hot tits ect?)

Lucky you - I live in Australia and in years gone by I spent as much time as possible frolicking and sunbathing at Bondi Beach. Have you ever heard of it? These days, I'm a bit too busy with other things to go as often as I'd like and on top of that ..... gotta keep those wrinkles at bay!!

I want mine to refect my personality, not necessarily what I do or what I look like. I leave those to my friends (not that you guys aren't friends).

True .... too many tourists, that's the trouble. As for Manly, no thank-you .... last time I went there I got stung by a blue-bottle - OUCH!!

Anyway, how can an "Angel" from Vermont, say "come" to Manly. Are you in Australia at the moment?

Re: What do people look for when selecting a suitable Avatar?
I have a variety of AV's in the goat motif - I get a lot of flak - more than a few have accused me of being a satanist - I admit I find that a bit amusing, although some bible enthusiasts find it offensive. The reason for the old goat motif is actually a lot more mundane: I'm 46 years old and have a six month old son. The "grizzled" aspect is that I have a Scots genetic background, and have been turning grey and shaggy since I was 16 years old. Also, I just like goats.
