I was woken by, not a bang, but the sound was like a jar of pickles opening. Vacuum seal being broken. Anonymous Coward User ID: 68860959 United Kingdom 04/08/2015 12:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I started getting it nearly every night just when dropping off to sleep, after a few years of heavy drinking. I was drinking a bottle of red wine every night and alot of beer and whiskey generally. it stopped as soon as I stopped boozing and I've never had it since, and I'd never had it before that, even when I was a moderate drinker. |

User ID: 67146187 United States 04/08/2015 12:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Have you woken up after hearing a bang in the night? 20% of us have 'exploding head syndrome' where we hear loud, imaginary noises Quoting: calin Condition occurs as a person is dropping off and hears abrupt loud noise Stops sleep and some people believe they are having a seizure or a stroke A third of people with condition also suffer isolated sleep paralysis This is where a person is waking up but cannot move their body And the type of noise can vary from explosions and fireworks to slammed doors, the sound of a gun firing, an enormous roar, shouting, thunder or a crack of lightning. Previous studies found one in ten people will experience the condition at least once in their lifetime, with women twice as likely to suffer than men. Dr Sharpless explained the disorder tends to come as a person is falling asleep, and doctors suspect it stems from problems with the brain shutting down. When the brain goes to sleep, it's like a computer shutting down, with motor, sound and visual brain cells turning off in stages. But instead of shutting down properly, the brain cells responsible for sound are thought to fire all at once, creating a blast of energy that the brain interprets as a loud noise. [link to www.dailymail.co.uk] I've heard bangs a few times, but in the middle of the night, not when falling asleep. I've heard a door slamming several times, but it's either in the middle of the night, or when I'm awakening. Never ever had sleep paralysis, and never will. Anonymous Coward User ID: 68862157 Australia 04/08/2015 01:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I actually had this happen to me about 2 weeks ago. I was almost asleep when I heard this loud pop noise in my head, kinda like an explosion but it was like I didn't hear it with my ears I heard it inside my head. It was really weird, I'd never experienced anything like it before or since. For a few seconds I was like WTF was that and freaked out but then I just laid back down and went to sleep. I had forgotten about it till I saw this post. Note: I had taken a few painkillers before bed maybe related idk. |

I think they are just filling space in the paper, Dr sharpless??? = Dr Dim? the brain does not shut down when we sleep, that is ridiculous, the explanation above is like a hairspray advert, "special scientific sticky bit technology for a firmer hold" It does always happen in the initial stages of sleep yes, but the brain is not shutting down trust me |
