There were civilizations that were and are thousands of years old. And what do you mean "enough said"? What do you mean by that?

You see that face palm I inserted? That was meant for you.

America was the greatest nation to ever exist. I'm not comparing it to ancient Greek or Roman empires. Those were dynasties that were embedded into whole nations and took millennia to build.

America when from being one giant barren landmass to the leader in, well, everything.

I say America is the 4th greatest in (known) history.

1. The Vatican Empire (probably includes both the EU and America)

2. Roman Empire. This is the physical manifestation of the Vatican Empire from when it was a governmental power instead of a power behind the scenes like it is today.

3. British Impire was huge and if they had the technology we have today, they would easily rule the whole world.

4. America. Is the presiding empire during the great technilogical revolution that transformed our lives in the 20th Century giving birth to the Information Age and the current Digital Age.

If we apply the same standards you used to tally items 3 and 4 then indeed America is number 1 hands down. Technology is what transformed humanity like never before. For the past 50,000 years humans were languishing. Sure, progress in medicine and science led to great things but not until the founding of the USA has there ever been such advancement in such a short period.

I think what made America the greatest is the unprecedented liberties that the American people used to enjoy.

Power, glory, and even technological innovations mean nothing without freedom.
