CONFIRMATION FROM PENTAGON THAT IT WAS AN ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON AMBASSADOR DON YAMAMOTO - NEWLY APPPOINTED SPECIAL ADVISOR TO AFGHANISTAN.

According to the Pentagon, his convoy was attacked by a lone Afghan soldier, using a vehicle mounted machine gun. The last car in the convoy sustained hits.
