I think if it is preparation for invasion, the most likely target of spec ops would be the Russian Federation. Proxy forces and the Saudis will be used against Iran.

I tend to think that with our economy precariously balanced and sitting on a razors edge, if another major war kicks off with the US fighting in Ukraine, Iran, other, then any resulting take down of our economy, or even a hacker hit taking down parts of the grid for no electricity, water treatment, welfare system down, will result in many people in the major metros having a very bad day.
