Alabama House calls for Convention of States to rein in federal government | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 42765307 United States 04/29/2015 05:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I applaud the 'Bama congress critters spirit but if you can't get the sentiment to take root among the house and senate members in DC it is a mere token effort and a pointless exercise. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69080936 The United States Congress DOES NOT have anything to do with the state legislatures amending the constitution. I think this guy is talking about the Alabama House and Senate. The states can amend it with 3/4 of the state legislatures approving it and there's nothing the feds can do about it except convince the States that if they do, the federal government will punish them via their control of federal dollars, etc. |

Ken Johnson (R-Moulton) and cosponsored by 52 additional Republicans, has been approved by the House. Last year the resolution died in the Senate, but Rep. Johnson has high hopes that this year will be the year Alabama officially signs on to the idea of a Article V convention." Quoting: SLC [link to yellowhammernews.com] Mark Levin has been calling for this for the past year...calling on citizens to DEMAND their State legislators bring this to a vote. The great thing about it is, the Federal Government is powerless to stop it and by law, MUST abide by whatever the convention votes to approve. It is our only hope, short of all out revolution, to turn back the clock on this cabal of criminals running this nation now. Try to think of it this way. If you take a shovel into a stream and dig a hole, does the hole stay there forever? No. A combination of water, sediment and debris fills the hole and soon, the stream appears untouched. The same goes for all that federal cash. If it dries up, someone or something will fill that hole. People are resourceful when they have to be. |

There certainly would be hurt, but we are lucky enough to have enough natural resources to sustain the entire state if needed. That said, the federal government under Obama has decimated private industry jobs. He shut down all coal power plants here, which tripled power rates for many of the poorest communities. Nearly all mining has been shut down. The gulf fishing industry has been decimated the past 10 years due to regulations. Our natural gas industry in the gulf has been reduced. All of these natural resources are being extracted by foreign governments and out of state corporations though. These are the things that the law proposes, which are already in place at the state level. We are just wanting the federal government to abide by the same laws as everyone else. 1) imposing fiscal restraints on the federal government through a balanced budget amendment; 2) limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government; and 3) implementing term limits on federal elected officials. They don't even mention shrinking government funding....just stop spending twice as much as we bring in every year would be a start. |

Im an American working in Germany. I know you didnt mean any offense, but, the last thing I want to be called is German :) (I live in Berlin. This part of Germany houses the absolute laziest ppl in the world.) Second, I am well aware that there is a private business in AL that thrives (there is in Albania to). But, my point still stands, and is based on fact. Alabama is an example of a state that, in many ways, survives on help from the federal govt. They take much more than they give. If the fed. govt was 'reigned in' it would be a negative for the state. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66016502 Fuck that. Mandatory service and financial contribution for those who advocate war. Let the armchair general pussies put their money where they mouth is, then come home and personally pay for their pussification. Major General Smedley Butler nailed it many years ago. Those who vote for Wars based on lies fraud and deceit, false flags like 911, should have their familes and themselves sent to the front lines until the war is over. They shoyld have all of their assets seized to pay for the wars. NO MORE WARS. The idea that you should not have to participate in your nation other than a consumer or civilian, gives to much leverage to the wrong people, with mandatory service those attracted to combat will still fill the rolls of fighting men, hopefully giving inspiration to the less inspired to protect their families interest |

They don't even mention shrinking government funding....just stop spending twice as much as we bring in every year would be a start. 1)Those fiscal restraints would lead to AL getting less aid from the govt. AL does have natural resources, but, that alone is not enough to sustain the state. At least for the next decade. As far as regulation: In the end I feel like its fiscally responsible. As those natural resources will dry up very quick without regulation, and that leads to future generations relying more on the fed). Additionally those regulations are meant to keep incidents like the BP oil spill from destroying the fishing industry (I believe that oil spill has quite a bit to do with the gulf coast fishing industry declining as well) 2)Limiting the power of the federal govt. would again lead to less aid from the govt. AL does need it. Despite the resources, they do not have the educated workforce (not meant to be offensive) that other states have to attract jobs that would pay better, and cover what they would lose in govt subsidies. 3)Completely disagree with it. In a free country, we should have the right to elect idiots, even if it hurts us in the end. Its up to the voter to be responsible enough to figure out when someone is a career politician vs. a long standing public servant. I voted for Obama, and stand by it. But, I gotta say you raised an excellent point, regarding shutting down coal mining. I feel like we should move to get off it...but, not at this rate. As you said, it really only hurts the poor in the end. A similar thing happened in Germany after the nuclear incident in Japan. A bunch of well meaning liberals (mostly career students, and other ppl who just dont have to work) protested nuclear energy, the govt caved, and those of us who work now have to pay quite a bit more for energy. One of the problems with the left (which is where I put myself politically) is that a lot of the priveledged class don't understand that sometimes you have to compromise ecological principles (for ex. allow more coal mining) in order to help improve the lives of the poor and working class. At least in the short term. Despite how the media portrays it, the avg. conservative does a much better job of truly understanding what its like to have to struggle (whereas a lot of liberals just want to pander and say the govt needs to subsidize because of whichever injustice.) I know Im all over the place. Its late here, and I have to go to work in 5 hrs (trying to keep myself awake). Appreciate the good back and forth. |
