Re: The VOID
I did finish the article I was writing about Kaylee and I think I did a pretty good job. But I'm too scared to really say that again after the first time. We'll see. It's actually really positive to have my writing pulled to pieces like this because it'll force me to improve. It kills me, but it's something I ought to get comfortable with.

Yes, the sync was definitely crazy yesterday.

Look how much effort the bakers put into their work just to have Paul rip it apart..poking their bread, pointing out soggy-bottoms, dry sponge, etc. Sure it hurts in the moment but he is trying to make them better bakers and they know that.

Some fold under pressure. Some shine. Some do both depending on what it is. :P

I'm glad you were able to connect in such a meaningful way with both the staff and residents yesterday.

I think Paul intimidates people with those beautiful blue eyes of his.

Yeah, you just see their happiness when he gives them a handshake. It must one of the best feelings precisely because hes so harsh. One of the contestants said he could leave happy just for that.

I finished this season(2019), last night.

I think that is one of the greatest aspects of the show, especially for empathic people, is the range of emotional highs and lows that the bakers face and conquer.

The viewer wants everyone to do well, because they are all trying so hard. You want them to succeed, such that any successes/failure, you feel personally.

I even noticed Paul calming down a crying final contestant, last night. I think that was the first time I've seen that in any episode. Was nice to see.

Homo Ludens is a book originally published in Dutch in 1938[2] by Dutch historian and cultural theorist Johan Huizinga.[3] It discusses the importance of the play element of culture and society....

I. Nature and significance of play as a cultural phenomenon
Play is older than culture, for culture, however inadequately defined, always presupposes human society, and animals have not waited for man to teach them their playing...

XII. Play-element in contemporary civilization
In American politics it [the play-factor present in the whole apparatus of elections] is even more evident. Long before the two-party system had reduced itself to two gigantic teams whose political differences were hardly discernible to an outsider, electioneering in America had developed into a kind of national sport

In games and digital media, the "magic circle" is the space in which the normal rules and reality of the world are suspended and replaced by the artificial reality of a game world.[1] As noted by Edward Castronova in Synthetic Worlds: The Business and Culture of Online Games, the boundary delineating this space "can be considered a shield of sorts, protecting the fantasy world from the outside world".[2] Instead of being impenetrable, however, an examination of contemporary virtual worlds reveals that the magic circle is actually quite porous. More directly, there appears to be a relationship between virtual worlds and the outside world

It's true that the guy who won was consistently either first or second in the technical every single week. He must have been learning and improving that whole time. That is what made the seasons with Mel and Sue, so endearing. They blocked the embarrassing crying content with their antics, while keeping it lighthearted.

I like all the cast members really. They all have their charms.

Some weeks though, no matter how hard one tries, you just can't hold it together. Then your period starts..and it's like..Oh.

I think with the stress the show demands of the bakers, it really is obvious. I could be wrong. But I bet I'm not.

V. Play and war
Until recently the "law of nations" was generally held to constitute such a system of limitation, recognizing as it did the ideal of a community with rights and claims for all, and expressly separating the state of war—by declaring it—from peace on the one hand and criminal violence on the other. It remained for the theory of "total war" to banish war's cultural function and extinguish the last vestige of the play-element

One wages war to obtain a decision of holy validity.[26]
An armed conflict is as much a mode of justice as divination or a legal proceeding.[26]
War itself might be regarded as a form of divination.[27]
The chapter contains some pleasantly surprising remarks:

One might call society a game in the formal sense, if one bears in mind that such a game is the living principle of all civilization.[28]
In the absence of the play-spirit civilization is impossible.

VI. Playing and knowing
For archaic man, doing and daring are power, but knowing is magical power. For him all particular knowledge is sacred knowledge—esoteric and wonder-working wisdom, because any knowing is directly related to the cosmic order itself.

My experience of men has neither disposed me to think worse of them or indisposed me to serve them; nor in spite of failures, which I lament, of errors which I now see and acknowledge; or of the present aspect of affairs; do I despair of the future.
The truth is this: The march of Providence is so slow, and our desires so impatient; the work of progress is so immense and our means of aiding it so feeble; the life of humanity is so long, that of the individual so brief, that we often see only the ebb of the advancing wave and are thus discouraged. It is history that teaches us to hope.

Honesty in its widest sense is always admirable. The trite saying that 'honesty is the best policy' has met with the just criticism that honesty is not policy. The seems to be true. The real honest man is honest from conviction of what is right, not from policy.

The forbearing use of power does not only form a touchstone, but the manner in which an individual enjoys certain advantages over others is a test of a true gentleman.
The power which the strong have over the weak, the employer over the employed, the educated over the unlettered, the experienced over the confiding, even the clever over the silly — the forbearing or inoffensive use of all this power or authority, or a total abstinence from it when the case admits it, will show the gentleman in a plain light.
The gentleman does not needlessly and unnecessarily remind an offender of a wrong he may have committed against him. He cannot only forgive, he can forget; and he strives for that nobleness of self and mildness of character which imparts sufficient strength to let the past be but the past. A true man of honor feels humbled himself when he cannot help humbling others.

Thanks. I'm eating a yam with cottage cheese.

It's delicious.
 Quoting: Seer777

By 'yam', I meant sweet potato.

Orange foods pack a punch. Gotta eat the skins too. Rub them in olive oil, salt, pepper before baking..

Sweet potatoes

Orange-fleshed sweet potatoes may be one of nature's unsurpassed sources of beta-carotene. Several recent studies have shown the superior ability of sweet potatoes to raise our blood levels of vitamin A. This benefit may be particularly true for children. In several studies from Africa, sweet potatoes were found to contain between 100-1,600 micrograms (RAE) of vitamin A in every 3.5 ounces—enough, on average, to meet 35% of all vitamin A needs, and in many cases enough to meet over 90% of vitamin A needs (from this single food alone).
[link to www.whfoods.com]
 Quoting: Seer777

Vitamin A deficiency is estimated to affect approximately one third of children under the age of five around the world. It is estimated to claim the lives of 670,000 children under five annually. Between 250,000 and 500,000 children in developing countries become blind each year owing to vitamin A deficiency, with the highest prevalence in Africa and southeast Asia. Vitamin A deficiency is "the leading cause of preventable childhood blindness", according to UNICEF

If you haven't watched any of the Drunk History clips, I recommend you at least watch this one.

There was a huge amount of sync yesterday, to bring it back around.

It is about the very thing you use to talk about all the time.

Agreed.

All the Drunk History clips are worth the watch.

It really is amazing to look back on people not as historic figures, but as real people.

I mean..who knew a flamboyant homosexual was directly responsible for us winning the Revolutionary War?

It really is..funny.

George Washington's army was trained and won the war, due to a man that wasn't just homosexual. He was 'flaming'...if you will. He was kicked out of Prussia and France for it.

The Army used his tactics for 100 years. Called, The Blue Book.

After 230 years, the 'Blue Book' still guides NCOs

There really is nothing like, credit..where credit is due..

Blue Book

During the early American Revolutionary War, there was very little standardization or guidance for the duties and responsibilities of the noncommissioned officer. The Continental Army lacked strong central command and was made up of state-run militias operating independently of each other. Each militia operated by its own rules and regulations.

In 1777, a Prussian officer named Friedrich Von Steuben volunteered to help. General Von Steuben's influence almost instantly helped to establish the identity of the U.S. Army.

Von Steuben volunteered his military experience through Benjamin Franklin, who wrote a letter of recommendation to George Washington. In 1778, Von Steuben met Washington for the first time at the winter camp in Valley Forge, Penn. Washington was instantly impressed with Von Steuben's military bearing and forceful personality.

By mid-March 1779, Von Steuben personally started training a 100-man guard company in the basics of soldiering. This unit still exists and is known today as The President's 100
