Depression spike among millennials hits their pockets: Spending on medication is expected to rise to $4,500 a year in US and could even start to harm the economy

A spike in the number of millennials suffering from chronic health conditions could harm the US economy in years to come, experts have warned.

They expect patients to fork out an extra $4,500 (£3,516) on medications annually as rates of depression, high blood pressure and high cholesterol continue to surge.

This will result in them having less income to pump back into the country, a report has warned.

Millennials are also more likely to take time off work due to their health woes, which will result in higher unemployment rates and slower income growth, experts said.

Thanks. I'm eating a yam with cottage cheese.

It's delicious.

By 'yam', I meant sweet potato.

Orange foods pack a punch. Gotta eat the skins too. Rub them in olive oil, salt, pepper before baking..

Sweet potatoes

Orange-fleshed sweet potatoes may be one of nature's unsurpassed sources of beta-carotene. Several recent studies have shown the superior ability of sweet potatoes to raise our blood levels of vitamin A. This benefit may be particularly true for children. In several studies from Africa, sweet potatoes were found to contain between 100-1,600 micrograms (RAE) of vitamin A in every 3.5 ounces—enough, on average, to meet 35% of all vitamin A needs, and in many cases enough to meet over 90% of vitamin A needs (from this single food alone).

 Quoting: Seer777

Vitamin A deficiency is estimated to affect approximately one third of children under the age of five around the world. It is estimated to claim the lives of 670,000 children under five annually. Between 250,000 and 500,000 children in developing countries become blind each year owing to vitamin A deficiency, with the highest prevalence in Africa and southeast Asia. Vitamin A deficiency is "the leading cause of preventable childhood blindness", according to UNICEF

all it takes to form a cult is an intelligent person with the training and wherewithal to manipulate a willing and susceptible group of people into believing their spin of events! lol

the people who are susceptible usually have dependency, co dependency or enabling traits. a drug rehab would be an ideal recruitment location, as it congregates many people with the above traits into a single location. lol

the charismatic leader would need to be able to convince the followers of their "good" intentions, while at the same time, suppressing their inner demons to keep them from being exposed and destroying their façade of altruism! lol

Does anyone else think this number is ridiculously high for 2019? In the 80s that number would be believable but now..it is just sad.

Damn. This needs more attention. Seems an easy and simple fix.

Saving Lives In Africa With The Humble Sweet Potato

A regular old orange-colored sweet potato might not seem too exciting to many of us.

But in parts of Africa, that sweet potato is very exciting to public health experts who see it as a living vitamin A supplement. A campaign to promote orange varieties of sweet potatoes in Mozambique and Uganda (instead of the white or yellow ones that are more commonly grown there) now seems to be succeeding. (Check out this cool infographic on the campaign.) It's a sign that a new approach to improving nutrition among the world's poor might actually work.

That approach is called biofortification: adding crucial nutrients to food biologically, by breeding better varieties of crops that poor people already eat.

Howarth Bouis is one of the people who came up with this idea, and he's been promoting it for the past two decades. He's an economist at the International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington, D.C., and director of an international effort called HarvestPlus that's creating more nutritious crops.

In some cases, they found that just giving malnourished children a vitamin A capsule every six months cut the death rate among those children by about 25 percent. "This number really astounded the nutrition community," says Bouis. "Then they started looking at iron and zinc and iodine deficiencies." They discovered that these micronutrients make a huge difference in people's health.

Quoting: Light of my Little Left Eye

Ted Patrick

Despite a lack of formal education and professional training, Patrick was hired by hundreds of parents and family members to "deprogram" their loved ones. A high school dropout, Patrick based his techniques and practices on his own life experience. Patrick once remarked in a May 1979 TV debate with members of the Hare Krishna group, "How I got into deprogramming was through my own son. All outdoor boy, couldn't nothing keep him in the house. Then one day, he was psychologic... psychological(ly) kidnap(ped) by a cult".

In this interview, Patrick also explained how this search to understand cults led him to speaking with "witches, warlocks, healers" and in fact, he went "all the way to New Orleans" to the same person his mother brought him to for his speech impediment. He also stated that he spent time in a religious group and after a week "...didn't know where I were, nor how I got there...I was hook(ed)."

Patrick stated this research and understanding of the mind from his ongoing struggle with his own speech, served as the background for his work in deprogramming.

On 12 June 1971, Mrs. Samuel Jackson contacted Patrick to file a complaint concerning her missing son, Billy.

As Billy was nineteen, the police and FBI would not look for him. Billy was involved with the group known as the Children of God, who had approached Patrick's own son, Michael a week prior. Patrick contacted other people whose relatives were in the cult, and even pretended to join them, to study how the group operated. This was when he developed his method of deprogramming. He ultimately left his full-time job, in order to work on deprogramming full-time.[3] Patrick founded the FREECOG organization, later known as the Citizen's Freedom Foundation, in 1971[1] before merging into the Cult Awareness Network.

As one of the pioneers of deprogramming, Patrick used a 'confrontational' method:

When you deprogram people, you force them to think.... But I keep them off balance and this forces them to begin questioning, to open their minds. When the mind gets to a certain point, they can see through all the lies that they've been programmed to believe. They realize that they've been duped and they come out of it. Their minds start working again.

I did my own research on the place, a couple weeks back and then again some days ago. Seems pretty legit.

All the cult sync, is what it is. I don't control the feedback.

It's legit. I promise. There is probably something to the cult sync, I'm just not sure what exactly

Seems so. .

The message seems pretty clear to me..

Oh yeah. Good morning too. Not a very good morning to me but I came up with some cool ideas for cults for creative matters. So that's...something...I suppose

Kind of a strange assignment. Getting Scientology vibes again.

It was something random they thought of to promote creativity. It's absolutely a sync but I assume of the spiritual variety.
Quoting: Light of my Little Left Eye

Thinking about cults doesn't inspire my creativity..

They actively recall horrors like, Jonestown. Heaven's Gate, David Koresh, and one of the myriad of mormon cults, where one guy has 30 wives.

 Quoting: Seer777

^^

When I was listing the names of 'cult leaders' that came to the top of my head, I missed 'Manson'.

Such that, the 'Environment' took it upon itself to remind me and the world in the the most horrific manner imaginable just hours later, of the 'Mexican Manson'..and his polygamous breakaway , murderous cult.

Pretty sick.

From link..

Mexican authorities arrested Ervil for my father’s murder, but he was later released. The authorities claimed they had no proof that my uncle had actually pulled the trigger—and of course he hadn’t.

With my father’s assassination, the Church of the Firstborn splintered like a piece of dry wood. Ervil and his followers remained in hiding, running between the US and Mexico as murders of other polygamist leaders in both countries continued to be carried out by the Church of the Lamb of God.

It took the authorities eight years to catch up with him, but not before he killed more than twenty-five people, most of whom questioned or doubted his authority. His victims included one of his thirteen wives and two of his own children. Because my uncle never killed his victims himself, but instead ordered his followers to commit these violent acts for him, the media in both the United States and Mexico nicknamed him the Mormon Manson.

Thanks for this.

I watched it a few times yesterday, while making dinner.

Kinda makes me want to watch it, but I have a feeling it's probably too violent for me. Which is why I avoided it.

I've heard from many it is excellent.

In the fall of 1989, local authorities here announced that six of Ervil’s youngest children, mostly teen-agers, left their separate Salt Lake City foster homes in an apparently coordinated escape and probably rejoined the cult in Mexico.

“These kids had contact with each other, they knew how to keep in touch and one night they all disappeared,” says Forbes.

If these children returned to Mexico, it was to a “bad scene” according to Rena Chynoweth. “The ranch was a veritable hotbed of hatred, militarism and illegal activities,” she writes in her book. “It was reputed to be an arsenal for many types of automatic weapons and the group was reported to be dealing in stolen cars and motorcycles from the U.S.”

Thread: TRUMP: THIS MEANS WAR (Page 9)
This wasn't a cartel murder. This was yet another order from the Mormon Manson, via his now-grown children.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 56687858

Prove it. This isn't the first murder they committed. They have your sons and daughters strung out on drugs and deserve what's coming to them. There have been border skirmishes for a long time now. It's time to put them in their place, the fucking ground. You fuck with the bull, you get the horns.
 Quoting: Truth Reaper

Those murdered today belong to a cult that is a major, federally-protected part of the drug trade.

hmm

Do you see the cult as a sync?
