Statins may increase diabetes risk in healthy people by 87%
In a database study of nearly 26,000 beneficiaries of Tricare, the military health system, those taking statin drugs to control their cholesterol were 87 percent more likely to develop diabetes.

The study, reported online April 28, 2015, in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, confirms past findings on the link between the widely prescribed drugs and diabetes risk. But it is among the first to show the connection in a relatively healthy group of people. The study included only people who at baseline were free of heart disease, diabetes, and other severe chronic disease.

“In our study, statin use was associated with a significantly higher risk of new-onset diabetes, even in a very healthy population,” says lead author Dr. Ishak Mansi. “The risk of diabetes with statins has been known, but up until now it was thought that this might be due to the fact that people who were prescribed statins had greater medical risks to begin with.”

Good find, but I can't find the original source article for this. Can you see if you can post it? I wanted to see the actual study paper.

And do you know what a lot of docs do? Since diabetis is a risk factor for heart disease, the put them on STATINS..

I am an RN, and this disgusts me.

Not only that, but LOTS of people are on statins, which have limited to no value. And then they end up diabetic.

I had a few relatives on that crap. I told them that in my opinion, they needed to stop statins immediately.

Our system is hopelessly broken.

Yeah you do know they are putting anyone on statins so yes healthy people who should not be taking statins end up been convinced by the drug pushers that they need them.

So yes healthy people.

Sure thing, I normally add the study itself but got distracted.

Apparently, If your opioid receptors in the neck are blocked, they often misdiagnose it as being diabetic.

Also I'm pretty sure if you look, statins mess with the brain, and increase the risk of dementia. there's a book out by an astronaut I believe and he was put on statins and very soon couldn't navigate the trails he had walked for years on his property. He then went off statins and recovered.
A good friend lost his dad to Alzheimer's made worse by statins....in retrospect they could see the brain differences after using statins for years...the last thing they wanted was to see was that if informed they may have helped him, but their research always brought them back to statins.
If they say it is GOOD...it is BAD...that simple.
