General Survival Tips (Please Contribute)
I have noticed on the forum a lot of talk about doom but no some seems to wanna share knowledge about how to actually go about surviving and living through this as well as dealing with the aftermath. I thought maybe it would be wise to start a General Tip and Tricks post and maybe later if anyone is interested we can do this scenario based. Not like I believe in the end of the world but I do believe shit happens and its best to know a thing or two.

Here are my contributing Tips.
1.) Remember the 333 Rule. You can survive at least 3 hours without shelter (climate conditions apply aka extreme cold), 3 Days without water and 3 weeks without food. Keep in mind this all applies to climatic conditions. If your in the tropics and the world hasn't really frozen over Its not like your going to get hypothermia. If your in the arctic or its really cold and lakes have frozen over, a really good easy building material is ICE. Ice will act as a great insulator and trap heat keeping you warm. What you do is dig into the snow to create a ditch. Get as much branches as you can and lay it over the opening or preferably fashion it into a dome over the opening. use twigs etc and make its tight and strong as possible. Now cover it all up with snow. Not too much as to make it heavy. Into the wall you can dig out a bit of a chimney, Make sure the vent is straight up. you can lay a few stones there and have a small fire for light as well as heat. You will be surprised as to how well this works and how much heat you can get.

2.) Water is essential, not only for you but a lot of living things.. these include bacteria and viruses. So don't just go drinking water anywhere you find it. Filter it and boil it. A simple filter can be made of grass. A better one ban be made by layering grass, putting a few large pebble over it, then packing charcoal over the pebbles.. This will remove most of the contaminants and odor as well as gases. Now you should boil this.. Use a container if you dont have one,, hollow out a piece of wood and layer leaves in it. put the water in and heat a few stones in the fire. drop the stones in and the water will boil.. A really cool trick I learned was to dig some clay type dirt close to a river bed, clean it by removing pebbles grass etc,, Mix in some stick tree sap then fashion it into a pot. Cook this in a fire till hard. Now layer and paste the inside with more trees sap and heat again till hard, This will form a coating and make it water proof. Now you got a pot for boiling and cooking.

3.) Now Food. You can gather food, stock food, hunt etc, but what happens when your in a desperate situation and game isn't all that lucky for you. Your best bet is to look for monkeys or any kind of primates. What they eat you can eat too. Now learn about several traps. The most effective is a pit Type trap. Dig a hole, put some very fine twigs on top and cover it with leaves. The best place to make one is where you see animal tracks. They usually use the same path over and over. make it in between two tress that the path runs in the middle of. Just make sure the hole is big enough and deep enough,, you can place spears in it, but I dont think you should as another human can become a victim.

Now you have noticed the tips I gave are ones that require no stocking materials. everything you need can be found right around you. Only thing I did not specify is about how to get a fire going I am assuming most of you here can do that without having to resort to batteries or matches or a lighter or a magnesium fire starter rod. Its best not to rely on those things and practice making it with 2 pieces of wood and a vine.. You will not always have those things.

Just one pound of Shock n Swim disinfects 100,000 gallons of water...
that's the first thing that came to mind...
since of course, water is essential

That's good info.. Handy to keep around. But I kinda question h9w radically feasible it is. It means you will have to stock this and keep it around, as well as its not really practical for small quantities of water for example...

1 lb = 100 000 gallons..
for 1 gallon = 1 lb / 100 000
= 0.00001 lb or 0.0045359237

so unless you have like 1000 gallons of water to clean up its kinda impractical.

But its a great tip so i am surely keeping some. and a scale.

Great thread idea and info!

Honey keeps forever and is a good food/energy source and powerful topical antibiotic. Also a good barter item.

New Tampons can be used as emergency life straws to filter water and to plug a bullet wound to staunch the bleeding.

Silver coins in water kills germs and impart colloidal silver if boiled in water. People used to toss them in wells to make the water safer to drink.

actually, when boiled in water, it's Nano silver, not Collidal Silver...and only use distilled water if you do it...

Pinch points can include interstate highway crossings, river crossings, mountain passes, etc. should be avoided if at all possible. TPTB will use these pinch points to funnel people into for search, confiscation, and internment collection points.

btw, most coins today are not real silver...was just thinking people may just take a coin that looks "silver" thinking it is....they are only silver before 1964...and I wouldn't use just any old coin... many have other metals in them that could be dangerous....personally, I use a silver Morgan, but it's not 100 percent silver, it has Zinc and a small amount of nikel in it also...I use it to make Nano silver, it's even saved my cat when she sick and near death, and we couldn't afford a vet....this also cured my (adult) son's urinary tract infection...but to make Nano Silver, you're really suppose to use a silver Eagle coin, which is 99.9 percent silver...
just wanted to clear that up...it's very important you know the difference.

Re: General Survival Tips (Please Contribute)
Tampons also are good for getting a fire started. Also, if you live in an area that has mosquitoes, research plants that repel them such as cedar, rosemary, lavender, mint etc. Keep a 'bug out bag' in your car and pack it with items that have multiple uses. Odds are that you will be close to your car if something occurs.

Learn your directions. When I was young my dad would have us play a game where we guessed what direction we were facing when we were traveling. Now, I can do it without even thinking about it.

Re: General Survival Tips (Please Contribute)
For those that live in a city area its best to get out of it quickly. As previously stated by a contributor who gave great advice on points to avoid people.

Its best to head for a rural area with a water source. Avoid places like national parks or camping grounds, basically places where people know.

Judging on the type of scenario Say for example Nuclear, It would server you better To NOT MOVE AT ALL, at least for 3 days if you are well out of the blast zone. If your within 60 miles, Move fast and do NOT GET WET. its best to inject potassium iodide before leaving as well. if you outside it move when all the rain stops. You should only use sealed water and use nothing that is from the land etc. In this case its contaminated.

Water itself cannot become radio active but it does get polluted by radio active particles and there is a process that can be done to decontaminate it. will list it later//

also the top soil is also contaminated so don't bother plating anything unless you dig a few feet under.

Regarding bleach/sanitation...liquid bleach "degrades" quickly. Powdered/"pool shock" is highly unstable and can't be in a closed container or stored indoors. I'm seeing some promise in these toilet bleach tabs. They are in sealed packaging and the contents...sodium hypochlorite...the key! Caution regarding "other ingredients"...surfactants, fragrances, etc. I'm leaning towards the Clorox brand/plain variety.

Check what other countries need when they go military:

gas mask
canteen
pup tent/tarp
dry food
water cleaner/filter
spare underwear
soap and first aid, especially heavy duty pain pills in agony times
firestarting tools
sharp things like knives
maps
thick shoes
dark clothes

More than ever it's a system to incorporate to share tasks to survive. What do you think we do every day?

Then you have to think like a criminal, and it hurts to really survive. Hidey holes, lockpicking, car shortwiring, dirty tricks.

I plan to eat the dead in an extreme emergency. Only when bugs are out of season though. I grew up with a big poster of the memory of donner pass on the house wall, it taught me everything about extreme survival.

If you are hiding, but need to have a fire use a Dakota hole.
Dig a hole straight down about 1 foot, then dig another hole at a 45 degree angle that meets the other hole (air supply).
Remove bark from wood for virtually no smoke.
