Re: is there any meaning to why churches have steeples?
The word, church, comes from the roman goddess circe, daughter of Helios (Circus also comes from this word). Helios was the god of the sun, and roman temples to Helios had steeples to "catch the first rays of the sun" in honor of him. They were called churches. Thus, the higher the steeple, the sooner the sun would hit the steeple, and the more devotion to Helios.

Re: is there any meaning to why churches have steeples?
The bell tower was generally placed higher than all the buildings around so the sound would carry as far as possible without being absorbed by trees, other buildings, that kind of thing.

They also built them high and on hills if possible to make them stand out. There was a time when the church building was the nicest place any common poor person was ever allowed to visit. For one hour every week you got to go and sit in a place nicer than any king's palace. Impressive size and opulence of decor drew them in, it was a marketing tool as much as anything else.

The twin steeples represent serpent phalluses, which are cone shaped and come in pairs (I know it sounds weird but look it up!)

Another reason they were built so tall is for astronomical observation.

They are modeled after obelisks. If you stand in the same location, you can accurately track the stars, sun, planets and moon using the top of an obelisk, steeple or minaret.

Thread: Are these pictures real? Have there really been giants?

There's a video that shows so many old structures with spires and introduces the idea that they are used to get electricity from the air. Power collectors...
I think it's the first video

Edit to add:
It is the first video. About halfway through is when they start showing all the structures with spires

Churches were also the typical place for funerals, weddings and in many small towns, town hall meetings.

I do remember the church bell ringing when I was a kid. Every Sunday morning at 10:00 am.
They also rang church bells for events dealing with war or other national events such as the death of a sitting president.

They have steeples for the sole purpose of making the bells audible for as far as possible.

Same as the minaret on a mosque.

People are posting insane shit here it is not about dildos or Egypt wtf.

One poster got it half right in a matter of ascending over all nearby buildings in days of Olde. Further, men and women traveling on foot and by horseback could see the cross atop the steeple from far off or through fog as an indicator that not only were they approaching civilization but that it was one well protected literally and figuaritvely by the church.
