Why are women keeping their own last name in marriage? It's still the last name of a patriarch, their dad's last name

whoever has the best name; there's lots of names we should get rid of, they just don't sound good or have scatological references. Bumstead for instance. John Crapper. Indian names, even bad ones, are cool. like Joseeph Crooked Toe or Mildred Mankiller.

Lol was just reading an article on commodus, than the actor that played him. He was born with the last name 'bottom', but he took his mothers name of 'Phoenix', when he became an actor. Joaquin pheonix. So yes there is something in a name.

I want my name to always match what's on my birth certificate. Saves having to answer personal questions from strangers in government positions when applying for things like drivers license, voter registration, passport, social security. My prior marriage is none of their business.

That's a nice practical attitude and does point up the involvement of the state in something as personal as marriage.

I tend to agree to want to keep the state out of my life as much as possible.

On the other hand I have some respect for tradition and for men's feelings in the matter.

Hyphenation has to be the worst cop-out on this question. Ugh.
