A couple weeks ago, I took two before bedtime for allergies, and found that it took care of a lot more. So I checked out the ingredients online and found this: The clearest example of an unofficial SSRI is diphenhydramine, which is an old antihistamine with a sedative action, usually sold as a treatment for coughs and allergies (eg. one well-known formulation is called Benylin [Benadryl in USA]). Diphenhydramine was, indeed, the root molecule from which fluoxetine/ Prozac was originally synthesized. It fulfils the pharmacological definition of an SSRI [and] should, on pharmacological grounds, be usable for the same indications. [ link to www.hedweb.com] --------- Been using it every night. It costs about $3 for a month's worth at Wal-Mart.
