That phrase isn't even in any legal U.S. Documents, just coined by Thomas Jefferson in his personal letters to the Danbury Baptist Church. This is a first amendment issue and was decided using the Lemon Test [link to en.m.wikipedia.org (secure)] Yes, this is another strike against the Christian Americans, in succession with the gay marriage ruling, but this isn't the end. You can move the monument to private land across from the capital if you want. This is just an overly disputed non issue that is better laid to rest. |

What part of the 1st Amendment do you not understand? Having ONLY a monument to the Ten Commandments looks as if the State is recognizing one religion. Thus, you either take it down, or--OH NO! welcome monuments to other religions. This is the law. This is why we're not a shithole Middle Eastern theoracy, which you're always welcome to move to. |

[link to www.fox23.com] Really? Something that has probably been there since the founding of the state and is a foundation of Anglo-American jurisprudence, is now, 2015, suddenly found to be unconstitutional? |

This country was founded on freedom from religion persecution, which meant one could worship they way they wanted. This translated into the state not being able to recognize a state religion. This translates into the 1st Amendment--the very first clause of it--of our Constitution, to give you the idea of its importance in our Founders' minds. Sorry, you don't get to rewrite history. |

From a Secular view, the 10 commandants have been incorporated as part of a historical foundation of Anglo-American law. Read the written judicial opinion of Judges that were on the bench at during the creation of the U.S. the ten commandants are part of the law without explicitly recognizing one religion or another. |

It prompted calls by a handful of Republican lawmakers for impeachment of the justices who said the monument must be removed. Attorney General Scott Pruitt had argued that the monument was historical in nature and nearly identical to a Texas monument that was found constitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court. The Oklahoma justices said the local monument violated the state's constitution, not the U.S. Constitution. The Attorney General Office's has filed for a rehearing in the case. Private funds were used to erect the monument in 2012. Since then, others have asked for space, including a Nevada Hindu leader, animal rights advocates, the satirical Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and a group pushing for a Satan statue.
