Hawaii Becomes First State in The Nation to Ban Plastic Bags | |
Ot User ID: 70714074 China 11/03/2015 09:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We live in a nanny state today because people think every law only affects other people. People don't protest laws banning rabbits, because they don't own rabbits. People don't protest laws banning yoga pants, because they don't wear yoga pants. People don't protest laws banning hoodies, because they don't wear hoodies. People don't protest laws banning smoking, because they don't smoke. People don't protest laws against sleeping in cars, because they don't sleep in their car. People don't protest laws requiring business licenses, because they don't own a business. People don't protest laws banning feeding the homeless, because they don't feed the homeless. The problem is that once everything is illegal, it is too late to change anything. |

Quoting: Philligan Over 100 billion plastic bags are handed out in the United States every year. Chicago just banned plastic bags, and California is considering a similar ban. It remains to be seen whether Hawaii’s ban will trend nationwide, but either way, it’s a lovely blow to the highly profitable plastics industry, and a big step forward. I don't know how things are in China, but it's Fall here and there are just as many of those goddamn plastic bags flying around as there are dead leaves. They are at the banks of rivers and on the shores of Lake Michigan. They are a nuisance everywhere you go. Even if you dispose of them in the trash, they have a tendency to fly out of the bin on pickup days and entire neighborhoods will have these bags flying all over. I'm not a fan of nanny type laws, but these things should have never been created to begin with. I can't wait until they are banned nationwide. Good on Hawaii to start the trend. |

Fuck nanny state laws, but this is actually sensible compared to the rest of them, so better this which MIGHT help alleviate prevalent environmental hazards than some oppressive gun law that does nothing productive in the end. |

Charge a refundable deposit for them, and you'll have people picking them up. 25cents/bag should do it. There would be no cost to the state. |

User ID: 61416856 United States 11/03/2015 11:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They have been ban for over a year now. At first I really missed them, I used them to put in the bathroom trash. We now have heavy bags to buy at the stores for .99 cents they last about a month then rip and tear. We used to have plastic bags caught in trees and fences all over now I haven't seen one for a long time. KINGDOMS, NATIONS AND KINGS HAVE BEEN BROUGHT DOWN TO THEIR KNEES WITH ONE GLANCE FROM A WOMAN. I WEAR MY SKIN OF ARMOR SO NO ONE CAN GET IN AND NO ONE CAN GET OUT. HOW CAN I MOURN YOU, WHEN I HAVE NEVER LET YOU GO, monster 1991-2008 RIP |

The result is that all the stores in the banned county are making money selling cloth reusable bags and paper bags for 5 cents each. The most telling sign is that they actually get mad at you if you bring in your old plastic bags that you are reusing! Isn't that the point? |
