Terminator Genisys timeline plots make no sense. - Negative Review and Spoiler Alert.
Before the negative, it was great seeing Arnold back playing an aged terminator, the action scenes and special effects were fun but the story just fell apart making the whole movie very meaningless.

[Spoilers]

The first problem is the timeline of 1984 John Connor which required Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor to concieve in 1984 to then become the leader of the Resistence and defeat Skynet. Many references in the movie to how important this event is. But they simply throw it away by having both Sarah and Kyle time travel to 2017 meaning 1984 John Connor no longer exists in that time line.

Not only does 1984 John Connor no longer exist, but the original Terminator from T1 is killed before he can aquire clothes meaning all of the events in T1, T2 onward no longer exist and are irrelivant.

When Sarah and Kyle are arrested, they meet O'Brien who remembers them from the T1 timeline that no longer exists. Sarah and Kyle no longer remember them so the writer is aware that this alleged meeting from T1 didn't exist, but makes the mistake (amongst many) that O'Brien does which would be only true if the original T1 was not killed and Kyle and Sarah stayed in the 1984 timeline. But clearly they didn't so O'Brien knowing them makes no sense.

Now enter 1984 John Connor who strolls through the police door to rescue them. What wait? They are in 2017 and no where have they produced this timeline version, how can he exist when he wasn't even concieved now in 1984? To make matters worse he has a coversation later on regarding how important hiding the fact Kyle Reese was his father was and to have told him could have distrubted the timeline yet the whole jump to 2017 pretty much guaranteed that John Connor was never concieved in 1984 and should not exist at all in the 2017 timeline ever... certainly not the 1984 version that strolled through the door.

If that wasn't bad enough, he's now a terminator who has arrived 3 years earlier providing literally every Skynet technology to Genysis short of the Skynet AI itself. We have the time machine, the liquid metal and you would think the first thing Skynet 1984 John Connor could do was simply upload his skynet AI software in a few seconds upon arrival but no instead we have this rediculous and meaningless countdown to it's birth... so utterly pointless.

Other scenes that don't make any sense due to the ripped fabric of timeline nonesense was the Dam where Sarah had Pops (and only Pops knew about) bunker full of weapons. Made very clear that only Pop's knows about this but lo and behold the 1984 John Connor who should not exist also knows about this place and arrives reminding me of meta-gamming practices.

In one scene Sarah is crying over the fact that in 1984 T1 Kyle Reese was killed like it was somehow going to happen again, and was important but the fact is... she killed the T1 that would have killed Kyle so his fate no longer means anything. No he clearly didn't die in 1984 by a Terminator. That terminator is toast so why dedicate this sad emotionally charged scene blathering on about something that no longer matters to the story? Just more timeline nonesense blather.

There is a time machine in 2017 but it gets blown up leaving Sarah and Kyle unable to return to 1984 to get the dirty on to create John at the end of the movie. Thus all the story accomplished in my opinion was rendering irrelvant eveything in the previous movies.

I thought the original T1 time paradox was bad where Kyle Reese goes back in time to save Sarah Connor so she can have John Connor and is the Father was a small technical forgivable oversight. Sarah needed to be knocked up from someone in 1984 to have John otherwise he really technically should not exist to send his future father back in time to create him.

But what they did in this movie was take that time paradox and completely take the stupid to a whole new spectacular level.

It was nice seeing Arnold, I enjoyed what I could salvage of the movie but the plot, story and time nonesense is completely unforgivable for me at least.

This is what you get for disturbing time lines....or you can endup as bookshelf spirit and jiggle with dust particles to make it "legit" like in Interstellar.

But thanks for details.

Or how about at the very end where Kyle goes to tell his 10 year old self to always stay strong? That made no sense to me.

It was all magnets and magic in Genisys. A jumbled mess of what would be cool rather then what would make sense when addressing the impact of causlaity and change by altering the future with the butterfly effect.

What they did here was an insult to deep meaningful time plots.

That actually was the only thing that maybe could have happened because 10 year old Kyle at least could have existed so that in that timeline his future self could have met him but the whole remembering this with the nexus quantum gobbly gook was terrible.

If you can remember one alternate timeline, why not remember all the thousands or millions of probable events that could or could not take place? It was a can of worms that should never have been opened IMO.

It was bad all around the block so I agree... none of it made any sense. It was bad writing all the way down the plot line.

Stop thinking linearly. If you go back and change history you create new timelines that exist along with the old.

Yes... timelines may exist but you cannot jump causality from one timeline where events took place to a timeline where those events do not take place.

That just violates simple causality. Ergo... 1984 John Connor cannot exist in 2017 new timeline wasn't born. O'Brien cannot have met Sarah and John in 2017 when they kill the 1984 terminator and existed the 1984-2016 period of time.

Yes, an O'Brien in an alternate timeline who was saved by Sarah and Kyle from a T1 exists... but why he exists knowing this in a new timeline where the T1 was destroyed and melted in a vat of acid rendering all those causality events irrelivent and impossible is beyond me.

Those events never take place in this new timeline... that's a fact.

The Terminator series is completely fucked. Even T2 is completely batshit stupid.
