The ACLU says seriously mentally ill people have a right to their freedom (meaning in most cases, thry have a right to live destitute, on the streets, homeless, victims of violent crimes, etc.). The response was to create 'community based' out-patient facilities, halfway houses, etc. Soon, local, state, and the federal government realized a financial burden was lifted off their shoulders in regards to providing decent care for the mentally ill. They then discovered by outsourcing with profotable contracts given to 'connected' private contractors they could kill 2 birds with one stone: give the impression they care about the mentally ill and less forunate, while giving payback to the private contractors who subsidize their political campaigns. This is the real problem - no resources to treat mentally ill people. Instead of trying a gun grab, the government should be investing in mental health treatments. |

The prisons are our answer to treatment....drugs are the biggest problem...brain can't take all that shit without getting a warped sense of reality and perspective. Most addicts are also, in some manner, jacked up in the head. Prisons are full of people with mental problems...drug related...abuse related....otherwise....one huge cluster fuck of crazy with no way out any more...too far gone, this world.
