Since I have a c250 coupe and am a mechanic myself, the only thing that is fully mechanical in that car is the parking brake. If his car was starting to accelerate by itself and nothing would stop it then he could have fully pulled the parking brake while still going relatively slow and he wouldn't have crashed at such a huge speed. Either way first thing I would try is shifting into neutral and if that somehow doesn't work try shutting it off while in neutral and if that doesn't work pull the parking brake whixh will work for sure in that car. Most newer cars are switching to electrical parking brake so they might be able to hack that too but the c250 coupe is still mwchanical |

No vehicle control system is immune, hell even windows and doorlocks are computer controlled now, along with all critical systems... Remote ignition software is there even if your vehicle didn't come with that option enabled. It can be used to remote start your engine, but also can be used to prevent you from turning it off. Accelerator, computer controlled, transmission, ABS.. I short if done properly, your vehicle can be made to accelerate uncontrollably, you can't take it out of gear, you can't shut it off, and your breaks go into slip mode, (no breaks)... A scenario from which there is no escape and very little chance of survival... And NO WAY to ever prove a thing, except that there was an accident, driver was speeding and lost control... Did that happen here? no way to know for sure. Ever! |

You hear about them so much these days you almost don't notice. A family friend becomes concerned that they haven't heard from a relative for a while. No one answers the door so they call police. The police force entry to find all family members shot dead. The father/husband from an apparently self inflicted gunshot wound. Autopsies are done, police do a cursory investigation, and it is ruled as a murder/suicide. End of story. These things happen almost every day. The relatives are left to mourn and wonder while the police and media move on to other things. One happened in my home town. Funny thing, though, the husband/father just happened to have worked at a major aerospace defense contractor... What do the cops care? They've already got everything wrapped up with a neat little bow on top! The Feds aren't going to investigate, either. For reasons that should be obvious! Like I said, these things happen all the time. Who is going to notice just one more? |

Many ways backdoor could have got their before or after assembly, within the present code or in code that is combined with an external 3rd party device. It's hard to arrest radio waves in propagation with exploitation activities. |

You guys should know that Mercedes has led the way in self-driving cars by inventing the radar cruise control. If any car of that year would be capable of externally hacking the throttle, it would be a Mercedes. At most, all an operator would need is to install a piggyback ECU that accessed the CAN bus. 5 minute job for an expert in the middle of the night in a parking garage or wherever. |
