Washington, DC — According to NBC News, The National Council of La Raza (NCLR)—the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, has awarded Donald Trump the highly un-coveted ‘Worst Person In The World’ award.
The awards celebration and party, which Trump did not attend, happened last night in Washington where thousands attended.
“This is the first negative award our organization has ever given since it was founded almost 50-years ago,” Jose Martinez, a spokesman for NCLR, told reporters. “The goal of the award is simple; we just want to make it perfectly clear that Latinos all across the country do not endorse, agree with, or want anything to do with Donald Trump. This man is absolute scum and our people take extreme offense to this egomaniac and his rude behavior and insane comments.”
The reason for the award comes after statements made by Trump just weeks ago about the Hispanic community.
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists,” Trump said. “We have drug dealers coming across, we have rapists, we have killers, we have murderers.”
Ironically, those comments came shortly after announcing that he will win the Latino vote if nominated for the Republican candidate for president.
“I have a great relationship with the Mexican people. I have many people working for me – look at the job in Washington – I have many legal immigrants working with me. And many of them come from Mexico. They love me, I love them,” the 2016 GOP contender said in an interview with NBC News. “And I’ll tell you something, if I get the nomination, I’ll win the Latino vote.”
36-year-old Paul Horner, one of the organizers for the party thrown by NCLR, told reporters about the night’s festivities.
“It was truly a fun evening had by all,” Horner said. “We blew up so many ‘Donald Trumps’ it was unbelievable. We had Donald Trump piñatas filled with candy that the children broke open. There was 10ft ice sculpture of Trump’s head that was busted into pieces by a sledge hammer. At midnight, as fireworks went off, a 30ft wide balloon with Trump’s face on it along with the word “EGO” was lowered and then set on fire. It was pretty amazing, I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Founded in 1968, NCLR is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan, tax-exempt organization headquartered in Washington, DC, serving all Hispanic subgroups in all regions of the country. It has state and regional offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Phoenix, and San Antonio. To donate to NCLR or volunteer, you can visit their website or contact them directly at (202) 785-1670. At the time of this press release, Trump or his advisers had no comment about the award.
