Ladies and Gentlemen,
50% rule applies.
The Earth as a whole are seeing the beginnings of possible 2012 (movie) scenarios. Approximately 40% of the US is in areas prone to sink holes.
The US States (according to the US Geological Survey) most prone to sinking and land subsidence are: Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas.
However, as you may already know, there are other States that have had sink holes and land subsidence recently such as Ohio, Louisiana, New Mexico, and California.
Here are some recent news items to perhaps demonstrate this could be an increasing issue worldwide.
Japan: Around Tokyo the area (sea) used in land development is breaking up and sea water is flowing into and onto the land.
[link to youtu.be (secure)] California: The land in several areas mostly in the Center of the state is subsiding at a phenomenal rate of 1 to 2 feet per year. This is being caused by the drought from lack of aquifers being refilled either naturally or by manly means.
