Every hour of every day they have reported the water levels for years. And now they suddenly stop. So who can guess what the real water level is There is still enough water in Lake Mead to cover the entire state of PA in one foot of water....Lake Mead is fine. Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 54838300 Canada 08/23/2015 06:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Last official recording was just below 1075 feet. Now after the hottest month on record with no rain suddenly the lake rose over 3 feet above the mandatory water restriction level. Now I am not for one second suggesting someone dug a five foot hole at the bottom of lake mead and started collecting new data and turned of the official data collection system for recording levels. Nope not me. |

The issue is that if the water elevation gets too low it will drop below the intake elevation of the riser pipe that feeds water to Las Vegas treatment plants. I think they were going to build another couple riser pipes at lower elevations to suck out the remaining water, not sure where the status is on those projects. . |

They just need to pull the plug and the water pressure should push it out to Vegas. The problem is 1 not enough pressure to generate hydro electricity from generators and 2 anyone down stream will not get any water when the pull the plug. |

So who can guess what the real water level is It's 1,078 They haven't stopped reporting....just that site is having issues. Water supply from the Colorado River will not run short next year, contrary to the dismal projections that Arizona had braced for until a few months ago. Water managers even expect to stave off a shortage in 2017 thanks to an unusually wet spring and a multistate agreement to take less water out of Lake Mead, the reservoir that stores water for lower-basin states and Mexico. The Bureau of Reclamation released a report Monday that projects Lake Mead to stand more than seven feet above the level that would trigger a shortage. The bureau would declare a shortage if it expected the lake to stand at 1,075 feet or lower by the end of this year. The assessment is made each August. [link to www.azcentral.com] |

Can we agree that if Lake Mead water levels where skyrocketing back to normal we would be hearing about this? "I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. Saw a program on tv the other day and there has been a major project underway for some time now involving Lake Mead. They have installed a huge tunnel or pipe under the lake like a bathtub drain. They are now prepared to start draining the lake from the very bottom to supply water to the area. They said this will ensure water for the next several decades. Better hope the drought ends in the next 30 years. |
