Thread: Annoying woman makes millions on youtube by PLAYING WITH BABIES TOYS Meanwhile I'm working my ass off like an idiot, up holding professional licenses and paying serious bank for office space and equipment. I am obviously doing it all wrong. I need to rethink this whole income game. Don't get all bent out of shape about it. For every story like this, there are literally hundreds of thousands of failures. Life contains an element of capriciousness, of risk, that just can't be swept under the carpet. (Something modern economics seems to have forgotten, but I digress). Risk is fundamental, but it can be managed to some extent. You are playing the odds, being the tortouse not the hare. Think of the long term. 80k for one idea that will fizzle out is a flash in the pan compared to what is possible with a steadier approach. Just my opinion. Well I wouldn't go as far as saying I'm bent out of shape about it, I'm just seriously puzzled. I guess I am, admittedly, a bit envious of the ability to make easy money while I have worked the traditional methods like a sucker. Now don't get me wrong, I admire their creative abilities and recognize that my envy is a reflection on my own short comings rather than theirs. I'm not in any way suggesting that they should not be capitalizing on these whacky ideas, as long as they don't cause arm to others. I just want get out of the rat race and I'm frustrated with myself that I have not thought of some of these things. Even if short lived, it could provide much needed cash to pay off certain debts or provide extra cash flows to contribute to causes that I would like to support further. And the thing is, most of these ideas require no risk at all. They are ideas that can be started with little to no up-front capital. So I'm just thinking out loud here: what could I do that would require little risk on my part but could potentially provide a flow of cash to pay off my mortgage or other bills and perhaps help others do the same? I feel like I need to do some brainstorming and I'm also curious if there is a formula that can be used to ramp an idea up to the viral status via marketing strategy or whether it is all based on dumb luck.....or perhaps a combo of the two. Also, the skeptical side of me wonders if some of this stuff is not placed in the public eye to provide false hope or make the average person feel like a tool for not having been clever enough to get ahead. The old propaganda of making the people feel as if their situation is 100% their own fault rather than having the cards stacked against them due to the underlying fundamentals of a flawed and rigged system. I dunno, prolly a combination of the two. Like I said, just thinking out loud. "Beware lest you lose the substance by grasping at the shadow". ~Aesop "Once in a dream I saw a snake swallowing its own tail, it swallowed and swallowed until it got halfway round, and there it stopped and there it stayed, it was stuffed with its own self. Yeah people have been making money on the internet for ages. Pornography. Bitcoin. Sending potatoes / glitter in the mail. YouTube stuff. Et cetera. Yes, this is true. Stories like these never provide information on how many other ideas similar to these have failed. It would be interesting to know the statistics and analyze the data to figure out why some florish and others do not. Like I said, I'm curious if there is a method that helps the odds of ones success such as marketing etc or if it's all just random luck. I would imagine both play a factor to some degree. I used to make extra money on the side backing he late 90's selling stuff on eBay. I would pick up something I like which I thought could fetch profit on eBay and then list it for 2 to 3 times what I paid for it. Most of it sold and if it didn't, that was ok too because I always bought things I wasn't afraid of beings tuck with. The ability to do that on sites like eBay has pretty much dried up since it has been over taken by big business. Now it's so over run that unless you are doing it full time, the chances of being able to squeeze a little extra cash, let alone a living, have become increasingly difficult. But people will buy absolutely anything. At the grocery you can buy a 15 pound bag of Russet potatoes for $1.89. You can also by a single Russet potato, pre-washed and wrapped in plastic, advertised as "microwave ready" for $2.29. Have we gotten so dumb, that one simply can't reach into the big bin of loose potatoes, grab one for like $.10, wash it at home and toss it into the microwave? Because I think people that buy those pre-washed, wrapped "microwave ready" potatoes aren't smart enough to know it's just a marketing ploy. They honestly think "regular" potatoes aren't microwavable. -Everything's more awesome when you lean into it. |
