You can call folks whatever you like, but actually doing some homework is a pretty good way to find the "deep things of God" and wake up from the Laodicean spam we've been fed for so long. Here are the scriptural definitions of said "fire":

"Our God is a consuming fire" - Hebrews 12 (an echo of Deuteronomy 4:24)

"Is not My word like fire?" - Jeremiah 23

He makes "His ministers a flame of fire" - Hebrews 1 (also Psalm 104)

fiery trials = sharing in the sufferings of Christ - 1 Peter 4

Israel's captivity in Egypt = "an iron furnace" - Deuteronomy 4:20, 1 Kings 8

A "fiery law" proceeded from God's right hand - Deuteronomy 33

The "lake of fire" is an immersion in ^^ these ^^ things. A world governed by God's Kingdom. The "fiery law" mentioned in Deuteronomy 33 is further defined in Daniel 7:10 as a river originating from God's throne.

Isaiah 60 points out that the gates of new Jerusalem remain open for the purpose of bringing the kings and armies of the world *within*. The "lost" bathe in the "lake", outside the "city", only until they're ready to come into the "city" and become a citizen. Like those of us already serving God, this is largely just a matter of our "old self" dying ("the desire of the wicked shall perish" - Psalm 112).




Note that per Revelation 14, those cast into this "lake" are "in the presence of the Lamb". He Himself is likely the fire that purifies.

The only thing that it burns up is the old, corrupt nature and its debris. . .

Fire will expose and test each person's works. . ."if it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames" - 1 Corinthians 3

"By Mercy and Truth iniquity is purged". . .Proverbs 16

"The wicked will see it and be vexed, He will gnash his teeth and melt away; The *desire* of the wicked will perish" - Psalm 112

The glory of the Lord seemed like a consuming fire to the children of Israel - Exodus 24

It was by fire that He revealed His Law to them. Moses went right up to it, but the masses were afraid. . .
"For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of the LORD our God anymore, then we shall die" - Deuteronomy 5

In Zecharaiah 2:5, God promises to personally be a wall of fire around New Jerusalem. In both Isaiah 26 and 60, these walls are also said to consist of "salvation". Again Fire and Salvation go hand-in-hand.


The process of "fire" leaves us in ashes. . .a scriptural symbol of humility.

All through the Laws of Moses, fire is what made the offerings acceptable and pleasing to God.


After Israel defeated an enemy, all the gold, silver, brass, iron, tin and lead were to be purified by fire. . .
Paraphrased, "Everything that can withstand fire must go through fire, by which it shall be made clean. Any other materials which *cannot* withstand fire must be purified by water." - Numbers 31

In the first century, Paul writes that "all Israel shall be saved" (Romans 11:26). But 800 years earlier, Isaiah tells us that God set Israel on fire (Isaiah 42:25).

Why would God subject Israel to fire if they're going to be saved? We learn here that being subjected to fire is no hindrance to nor disqualification from being saved - experience in the fire typically *promotes* salvation:

"All shall be salted with fire"

"He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and fire"

And just what type of "fire" was this that they didn't even notice they were on fire?! (see above)

So you have been warned, Hell is very real.

Further, if we're familiar with the Law, we'll catch what He's hinting at. . .

Exodus 22: "If fire breaks out and catches in thorns, so that stacked grain, standing grain, or the field is consumed, He Who kindled the fire shall surely make Restitution."

OK, but if the Father hasn't revealed Him to them - like He did with Peter - how can they truly know, and truly believe and trust? It remains mere information that the carnal mind cannot absorb. I'll be glad to come up with all kinds of excuses for them; over and over, scripture speaks of mankind as captives. Slaves to sin. Slaves aren't exactly known for having a whole lot of freedom, are they? They need *freed*, perhaps by people who were once in those same shoes, now compassionate, willing & able to bring redemption and hope instead of callously declaring that they have no excuse and are screwed. What the Pope says doesn´t matter - IT MATTER WHAT GOD SAYS.

The Pope is an ordinary man who is exalted to a position in the Catholic Church and if he usurps the authority of God then there is something wrong! He should agree with everything God´s word says and what Jesus said.

The reality of hell should frighten us, because not one word in the Bible about hell would ever make you want to go there — not if you take it seriously. The Bible speaks of hell as a place of absolute loneliness and despair and hopelessness. It calls it a place of “darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 22:13).

But Jesus didn’t talk about hell just to scare us. He talked about it instead because He wanted us to know that God has provided a way of escape! Listen: God doesn’t want you to be separated from Him forever. He loves you, and He wants you to spend eternity with Him in heaven. Unlike hell, heaven is a place of joy and peace and freedom from all the fears and pains of this world. Who wouldn’t want to go there?

Don’t gamble with your soul, and don’t turn your back on Jesus. Instead, by faith turn to Christ and commit your life to Him. He alone gives us hope — hope for today, and hope for eternity.
