Chickens love tomatoes. Sweet peppers and squash, too.

If you ever get a zucchini that snuck up on you and got absolutely huge before you noticed, toss it to the chickens. They'll love you for it.

Re: I Am Gonna Catch My Neighbor's Chicken
AC I understand what you mean, West Virginia was just a grab in the hat, why did you pick that?

No, I am in the mtns. The other ones.

But, on the whole of the egg matter

People in an RV park who have their zone invaded by chieckens should

1: Be able therefore to refuse the sherrif when he comes with his anti-chiecken force as it was the chicken who came in and stole from me!

2: Also I should be able to keep the bird as an egg production vector, since as an American, that is best for my survival, and this crosses ALL CLASS LINES.

Right?

I mean the chiecken invades my yard, I am making it a positive thing. Throw a crate on it, dodge the cops, and I am good right?

Legally tho, I may have to go pay fuckig 5.00 a dozen or 10x that, or starve, I guess, legally.

Hehe, I am fucking with you because those in compounds or stick built homes all nice and tight with each other, will

probably allow chickens when shit breaks down, but

You won't be able to defend you chickens, while good folk like my neighbor, will be able to defend theirs, and I will help n that effort, see? I also will be rooting for all American chicken owners, in all 50 States and also Puerto Rico tho they owe us or something.

SHIT, Puerto Rico has WAY more chiecken rights than we do!

So this thread has a lot of ways to cook it to your flavor.

Toasts up!

Brilliance again!

Now, does this make them lay more?

I have heard that by making them happier, they produce better.

Re: I Am Gonna Catch My Neighbor's Chicken
All you need to do is build a few nests out of straw and small wooden boxes/crates.

Scatter some bird seed, cracked corn, whatever, near the nests.

They will start laying eggs in the nests you provide.

You may get 2 or 3 a day.

Some days you may not get any.

But whatever the chickens leave behind is yours.

And at least you're not stealing from your neighbor.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70274273

That is kidnapping . It is strictly forbidden .

Your neighbor should come over and demand to be paid for the fertilizer the chickens leave in your tomato bed . Probably the only reason they are so tasty .

Damn birds. Don't bother with the chicken heist go for the peacocks. They bring the big bucks.
 Quoting: Corkygreenstate

You are very smart indeed.

If he had peacocks that would wander in and make their wonderful call, I would post a different thread, as I don't believe they give eggs.

Melek Taos himself endures in the spirit of the peacock.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69516141

Yep they lay eggs. Those fukers bring a pretty penny when they are fertilized.
 Quoting: Corkygreenstate

My buddy in Simi had/has peacocks, I loved to hear them call out but I think it's kind of an aquired aural-taste, kinda like muslim prayer.

If you hate it, you will hate it always or grow used to it, or always hate it.

I mention the muslim, again, to honor Melek Taus.

Chickennapping maybe

But you make good points, I am listening, wisdom here.

Wait no, my shit was growing great, they just began invading recently, something has driven them into my yard.

Become vegetarian instead. Turn your life around. Try that vegetarian chicken, it's lovely with some white bread sauce, peas, free range poached egg, herbs & a cuppa tea.
Buy your own chicken, have free range eggs & give the spare ones to your neighbour.

Chickens, good luck thing will be in a pot soon as it's out of sight. Hell, I and a neighbor were having a blackfri style shoveout trying to grab a third party's freerange chicken wandering in the middle of the street.

Roma is a good tomato, it blossoms fast, grows easy, fits into a child's hand as a yummy snack with no leftovers,

they are perfect for BLT, I slice em and put one roma on it, no leftovers,

I grew up in Simi. I moved way north in 1985. Now I have chickens. Lady down at the end of the road has peacocks. Another neighbor raises roosters, he has over 100 of them.

It's like a symphony around here some days. If I ever moved back to the city, I would certainly miss the rural sounds. (not going to happen).

Yes, in my experience, chickens lay more when they are happy and not stressed.

Yeah, another example would be,

one day there's a bear running around the park, and the next day the old dude on the hill has bear burgers for his friends.

The rural would upset most city folk.

Bears, to me, are precious. I said to them,

"Why not do as the Russians do, and just besodden the beast, and letteth him be drunk but alive and jolly?" or words to that effect.

That laughed and shot him. :(

But nature makes more bears, and I know indians, and indians hunt bear and eat him.

I suppose respect is the point of this thread.

Respect is demonstrated in many ways. This is true if you are settled or mobile.

I mean you are adorable, thanks AC, but

You don't bring your garden inside. You cover it outside or just go lazy with it as I do.

Whoa you make a real good point,

I'd be having a delicious hard boiled egg, [tap tap tap]

and my skull would shatter into a thousand peices as he avenged the loss of his chicken.

It is true that some men love their chicken too much, but he's not like that, he's good, normal.

No, he would maybe just oh I don't know, grow ten more chieckens, he's that kind of great neighbor, some people just have good things overlfowing.

Now, to be honest, many of the folks in the park, complain, like, maybe it's 50%?

Hmm, they complain but I don't.I have a garden, they don't. Hmm. Well, I share my romas but my melon plant took a giant dumpo, ants ate it.

AC 273 I apologize for failing to note your # and insinuating you might be a cop or enjoy their anti-chicken or anti-garden efforts.

No one should have to endure such a slander or calumny as that, and I must say to you sir, it was not my intent to in any way accuse you of being of that caste who makes money taking shit from poor people.

TRUTH, wow you think outside the box,

That's the thing tho, Winter's coming, I need a battle hardened egg layer, I am not able to sex pullets from the brood tho I looked into it, I would end up wuith roosters and I can't have that because they crow and upset

AGAIN, the neighbors,

We all have to deal with neighbors, I think maybe GLP is familiar with me and my style,

Plus even if I bought already sexed female chicks, keepin them alive during winter seems hard for me, is what I mean, better to just maybe as AC suggested, throiw down some food and shelter, and let the birds have a choice,

as AC 273 said, if they leave eggs, I am lucky.

But yes, having chicks is key, no matter what.

Those rocket engine tests used to interrupt classes at school regularly because nobody could hear the teacher over the roar. Not many know the first nuclear reactor meltdown happened up on that hill in 1959.

I remember a neighbor on the street where I grew up that had some chickens. His wife had horses she boarded elsewhere, but would sometimes ride them home and stake them out in the yard to eat the grass. Greenest grass on the street. I also remember other neighbors hassling them about having the animals around. This was probably about 1970. One guy even sued them over it. He was probably jealous of their lawn. Talk about fake people.
