Yes, it's still there, in fact it's exactly where it has been for decades. Astro, seriously, I appreciate you're doing this, it's a lot of work, but most people, including me, are not going to sit and watch a video for over an hour of you trying to get the right coordinates, etc. What would be very helpful is if you could summarize your findings, something like: What this star is - name, constellation, location, type How far is it from us Why does it have that wing like appearance Is that unusual (the wing like appearance) Why does it appear that Google was blocking it out I appreciate you're trying to demonstrate it to us livetime, but most people don't have the patience, time or understanding for the whole video, so if you could summarize, it would be helpful. I tell you what, I'll take your advice and do a brief summary video once I've finished processing a high quality stacked image of the star. I was only able to get 30 minutes worth of light on it this morning, which means the resulting image is quite noisy. If I can't clean it up to my satisfaction with complete image calibration and denoising routines, I'll just collect more light on it to add to the stack on another night. Anyone who is truly interested will watch it, but for those with short attention spans it would be a good thing. (I tried to get my daughter to watch. She is 16. She said, "Tell me when he shows it") Lol Well if you want to skip to the part where I finally have the final result, I show the stacked image of all the exposures combined during the last 2 minutes of the webcast. |

It's just slightly below the center of the image: [link to h.dropcanvas.com] And here's an animation of my image along with Palomar sky survey images from 1951 and 1996: [link to h.dropcanvas.com] The 1996 image was used as the blue channel of the Google Sky mosaic. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70194319 Betcha you haven't, you ALWAYS ignore this question. There are multiple possibilities. It could be an extrasolar capture or it might have been perturbed into its orbit by an unseen planet far beyond Neptune. Dr. Astro, I'm intrigued by the above quote. Would you mind extending on it? Thanks for the videos and everything you do at this forum for us. Have a nice day :) |

Thanks for the videos and everything you do at this forum for us. Have a nice day :) Not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said. There are about three main theories; one is that Sedna and other dwarf planets were scattered into the outer solar system by perturbations from a distant possibly earth-sized planet which may be out there. The others are that they formed closer in but were perturbed to great distances by an encounter between our solar system and another one early in our solar system's history, or that our solar system actually captured those dwarf planets during the encounter. You sound to be about somewhere in your early 20's. Am I right? Quoting: Daddysgirl No. You seriously came here just to attack me as being "young and therefore ignorant?" It's your usual schtick when responding to me, I get that, but seriously you had no other interest in the thread? |
