Music was MUCH better in the 60's and 70's - - the words were generally understandable (well, except for "Louie, Louie") and actually SAID something, and the music could actually be identified as "music" (which could be hummed and sung in the shower) as opposed to the jungle-boogie X-Rated ghetto rap-crap we are bombarded with nowadays.

Of course, this is just my own humble opinion, having lived through those halcyon days and witnessed the horrendous decline of musical talent during the following decades.

It all started with "Society's Child"...and THAT song, if any of the troglodytes here check it out, is REALLY gonna start some hate for a good artist.

She changed with the times, did good lyrics, was sane, an underrated singer in my opinion. YMMV.

Shawn Colvin is in the ballpark. And if you focus only on the music, kd Lang does a great concert. I could put together a Tori Amos list that'd be more than serviceable as well. Again, just one person's opinion, ymmv.

Late to this party but had to say it.I LOVE JANIS IAN.When 17 came out,even tho back then there was a lot of good GENUINE MUSIC-I was so struck by her DEPTH. Always liked her,always will. Thanks for a walk down memory lane.Her music is timeless.
