The power grid is not as vulnerable as you might think. Not anymore.

Then why has the biggest newspaper in the US reporting these numbers in their report?

Look, if terrorists were capable of shutting it down, it would've been do so by now.

Could they do it in the future? Possible, but harder by the day.

Don't buy in to the 'they're waiting for the magical day and just the right time'........that's all bullshit.

I think so, too, but I wonder about a massive solar flare. I still believe people should be prepared of grid failure. It only makes sense.

This is so true, Luxen. I have done a lot of research on herbs.

I have ulcerative colitis, and at one time I could not get in to see my doc. It was a two week wait list, so I started reading a book by a Dr. Duke.

He said that peppermint oil capsules had cured a woman of ulcerative colitis, so I bought some at my health food store...not had any problem since. They work.

Raw goat milk cures most digestive tract problems. I suffered every night from reflux until I started drinking a glass of goat milk at night. No problems since then. I drink Nubian goat milk because it is so rich, only Nigerian goats have richer milk. Don't waste your time on anything that has been pasteurized, that destroys all the curative properties.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

I work for Mr Edison's company. It's not as vulnerable as you think. However all the infrastructure is getting very old. Probably more risk from failure of the grid because of old age than anything. No new investment to speak of in many years. Wind and Solar mostly. Any serious power generation projects have almost ceased since Obama.

Mountain Woman, remember that Nat Geo docudrama from 2013, "American Blackout" ? I still have to wonder about the rise in survival and "prep" type shows on telly in the last 6 years. Is it mere fear-mongering to raise Nielson ratings, or has this been some kind of oblique "get ready to be on your own" message from tptb?

Here's a doomeriffic treat I ran across whilst googling - "Secret Iranian Handbook Calls for EMP Attack on America"

Iran doesn't like us very much. I wouldn't put it past them.

Also - our grid (& overall) infrastructure hasn't had the best funding since Oblahblah got elected - twice.

I think after doing this thread and getting all this feedback, the problem is the wearing out of our aged grid.

It could very well be that we are being warned we would be on our own soon.

The wealthy have their islands and are prepared, while your regular joe is so involved in day to day survival, he will be the one you will have to help.

I have always said I want to be the one to help...not the one who has to be helped.

I, also believe we are at risk of a solar event that could knock this planet for a loop.

Well, it could just as well been terrorism as an FBI attack...both are legitimate.

There have been and will be so many attacks, we will never know who the real attacker is: from within our own government or a "lone wolf".

Re: UPDATE: BY AN ELECTRICIAN/ USA TODAY obtained news about our Nation's power grid. If this information is true, how have we avoided a blackout?
There is a pretty easy fix for that.

Seems to me to be a no-brainer.

If this is any problem at all especially at nuclear plants...

WHY are the systems connected to the internet in the first place?

Can't hack it from the internet if it isn't hooked up to the internet.

Apparently most of the people that run anything important in this country are idiots!

They need to have these systems completely stand alone and heavily shielded from EMP.

And I say that because anyone with half a brain knows that a Carrington-like event is going to happen sooner or later.

Unless it's because they full well know that if another Carrington-like event happens we are all doomed anyway.

Think about it, all the nuke plants will melt down, hundreds of Fukushima-like events.

Sure, many will survive such an event short term and possibly long term. But what will fail at a relatively low threshold is the human races ability to reproduce. And just about everything else on the planet.
 Quoting: G. House

I would say it was purposely set up that way so the plug can be pulled when wanted and blamed on someone else.

I don't see any other reason for that type of vulnerability. What is gained from having all those systems online?

Solar surprises, yes indeed. Things like the great volcanic winter of the early 1800's, The Carrington Event of 1859 (----> [link to science.nasa.gov] ) ... nature doesn't stop doing its thing just because society has technologically evolved. An event like the one in 1859 would be devastating, given the current state of America's grid, imo.

Never hurts to have a little extra water, food, batteries on hand at any rate.
