I grew up in a haunted house- was it demons?

There was a masonic checkerboard floor in the main room!

This is my true story.

This house was horribly scary-and very old. 1800's

Creepy sounds, nightmares, hallucinations, people touching you, the whole time. I would see things move, hear my sister talking to me, and realize I was the only one home

My mom witnessed a soldier walk through the wall, years later we discovered the original front door was under the paneling in this exact spot.

When we moved in, my parents nailed shut the upstairs bathroom, and built a new one downstairs. No explanation given, just told to never go in there.

The main floor was checkerboard masonic floor, my mom put brown carpet over it.

There was also a well in the basement that had a horse skeleton in it!!!! The basement had secret rooms like a prison of sorts. We were never to go down there. There were glass water jugs in each of them.

Flash forward a few years, and my older sister would go into the "bathroom" upstairs to sneak cigarettes. She dropped it one day, and it kind of rolled under the wall, and she kicked a hole in the bottom of the wall to get it, so the house wouldn't burn down.

There was a secret room behind that bathroom wall!!!!, with a shoe, a hatbox, and writing on the wall, mostly gibberish. A piece of chalk on the floor! We moved shortly after finding that room. We were too creeped out after that, 6 years, and that was the breaking point.

I never slept well in that house, my family fell apart, all of us had health issues, parents divorced- all sorts of negative juju.

We thought the house might have been part of the underground railroad- BUT,

recently I made the connection about the checkerboard floor, and think maybe it was evil, like satanic.

I still dream of that house 25 years later, and my brother turned out to be a very dark, very angry person in life. My mom and I wonder about him sometimes, and if that house affected him.

Has anyone ever experienced this before, and could it have been demons?
