Verizon has no signal around here. I have corded landline phones, but know from past experience the phone RT batteries are only good for about 48 hours and there is no backup generator.

That hut also supplies all internet access, so I guess we are doomed in the event of a long-term outage.

I do have the ability for radio communication, though.

Good maybe people will actually look up for once!

I used to have a computer with a phone plugin in in it. Why is it that they donot have that anymore?

Got ham radio

After TS Allison I had no cell signal. Monday morning found me second in line at a Verizon store in Cypress TX waiting to switch carriers. I've been with Verizon ever since and can still phone home.

I probably wouldn't even noticed unless it happened at about this time, then I'd probably think that the hub had stopped working and go to bed. In the morning I would try and phone the phone company and realise it's the whole line not just the hub. Not sure what I'd do next though.

We can readily communicate now so our comfort factor is good,not getting on glp,or our cell phones well that's a whole new ball game.

In the movie "Next" Starring Nicolas Cage the FBI woman called and had a two mile area of cell phone communication shutdown.

Once an area goes down they will conveniently shut that area down.Keeping the commotion isolated.

We can readily communicate now so our comfort factor is good,not getting on glp,or our cell phones well that's a whole new ball game.

A derecho wind storm hit my region of Southern Ohio, in the summer of 2012. I expected the Verizon landline to continue working. However it was dead. A few days later while driving through the neighborhood, I noticed where the 2 inch thick phone cable had fallen because of several telephone poles being broken, causing the cable to lay on the ground. However, every bit that was within reach, roughly a 300 foot section, of the cable was missing. Presumably an ordinary copper theft.

When these various systems become shut down for one reason or another, expect copper thefts to increase, leading to further outages.
