AT 12YO I WAS GUILTY AS GUILTY CAN BE BUT, PASSED POLYGRAPH TEST W FLYING COLOURS. :-0
That was many years ago,the good ole days as I'm an old fart going on 51 lol.

Anyway here's the story.

I am originally from west Palm beach fl.
I was born and raised in the very deep country at least at that time and nearest neighbors were over a mile away.

There was no PlayStations or the like, we'll maybe the game PONG came around at that time??

So friends were a mile away and we had bikes to go back and forth and then Honda 70 motorcycles we all ended up w them for Xmas presents.

We were always outside as being stuck inside in south Florida was as if was taboo and rarely were we home at dinner and usually came in after sundown.

Well where I lived there was 10 acres of land with a nice lake on it that we used to swim at a lot.

Well one day I came home from school and noticed a loud sound at the back of our property and walked back there and noticed a big d-10 caterpillar Dozer clearing the land w that nice lake on it.
Well I immediately called one of my friends and he came over w in an hour and we watched as the land was being cleared off and I especially was pissed as I grew up w that lake and the woods it was on and never thinking that it would ever be taken away and was sad seeing it being dozed away.

A couple days went by and noticed that the dozer was starting to fill in the pretty lake, OH I WAS PISSED and talked some more to my best friend and told him lets go one night and put that dozer in the lake.

Well one night at around 11:30 I got my flashlight and we went to the dozer.
Well I hotwired it and had it up and running w in two minutes.

Remember I might only have been 12yo but as said grew up in the country and was actually driving one of my parents old cars at 9yo and for several years afterwards and drove it all over in the woods for miles at a time and gas was only 25-30 cents a gallon (again, the good ole days lol)
As noted, no PlayStations etc then and if the car broke down like an alternator or waterpump I would easily fix it myself and think nothing of it along w lawnmowers etc.

Ok,back to the dozer.
As said I hotwired it and drove it around w my friend for prolly ten mins.
Then I told him to jump off and it's going into the lake.
So I aimed the dozer at the lake and jammed the two drive sticks forward and jumped off of it and we stood there and watched it go into the lake and it sunk down and died with just the top of its roof sticking out about two foot.

Well we accomplished that feat and we both went home

Next day I noticed the cops were there and the next day two detectives pulled into our driveway as I was mowing our yard.
They came up to me and asked me if I knew about what happened and of course I said no.
Well they drilled me a little and said they knew w out a doubt that I did it and asked me if I would take a polygraph test and I said sure, so my parents had to take me to the sheriff's dept where they took me in a room and sat me in a chair and hooked up me up to the polygraph machine.
It looked no different than what u see on crime shows today.
Well I took the test and the end results were I was cleared w no deception noted and detectives apologized and back home I went lol.

Well that was it and never heard anymore about it.
Just goes to show that if a 12yo can be guilty as guilty as can be and clearly pass a polygraph then can u c why many can truly be innocent and the polygraph says opposite which can throw many behind bars for years?

I am not gloating about what I did as it was very very WRONG!!

Just making a point that polygraph machines are not in anyway 100% accurate at all and prolly many innocent are found guilty and many guilty are found innocent using these machines in a case!

Thanks for reading my little TRUE story and never trust a polygraph!

It is possible that it was just a ruse by the cops to try to get you to confess and the machine wasnt real OR they didnt know how to read it or use it correctly etc - cool story though.

I grew up in South Florida in the 80's and what OP describes is similar to my experience. There were always farmers with large equipment digging large mud holes. Never did figure out why. We use to swim in them with all kinds of shit. very dangerous but we lived. Could have been anything in that water and probably was.

Florida kids were very adventurous and often had the opposite of helicopter parents. Very much like Lord Of The Flies. Sadly most of those kids I grew up with are dead or in jail.

Oh the machine was totally real and from what I remember I was hooked up to it for around 90 mins answering questions.

What brought me to post what I did as a kid is I watch the channel I.D a lot and a show was just on about a young couple whoes 6yo girl came up missing and the father became prime suspect and they found her body in a river.
The father took a polygraph and totally failed but he really had no involvement whatsoever w her sad sad murder as they found the subject who did it.

My story. With a recent polygraph examination, only a few years ago.

I am a woman.

I applied to many administrative jobs with law enforcement. For this they require a complete background check - passed, high scoring exam results - passed, was actually the highest out of a few hundred. No illegal drug usage for 7 years, and....a polygraph exam. Well, I had an old boyfriend that smoked marijuana and the exam asks you if you have had anything "at all" to do with illegal drugs within that 7 year window. I tell the truth about everything, and I don't break the law - and I honestly couldn't recall if I had held it in my hand 6 or 7 years ago. I was nearly positive it was 7 years ago, but no 100% sure.

Well, I needed that job, wanted that job, and I was more than qualified. I went into the exam thinking, when they ask me that question - I wonder if I am going to flunk!!

I thought - let me stress my body on another question, so when they ask that question it will be normal.

So the polygraph session was normal in length, asking the usual questions about illegal activity, drugs and your personal history.

The guy comes back and says to me, oh you passed but there is one area that shows you might have been a little deceptive. And I said really? So the area where they asked about the 7 year span of non-drug use was fine. He says....the point where they ask you about taking money for sex (yes, they ask you this question), that seemed a little evasive.

The point where I tensed my body - purposely was when they asked me about ever being arrested. Since I never had been of course and they knew it, I thought it would mess with the examiner.

I was floored. Because I have only been with a few men in my entire LIFETIME. Few being less than five. So I looked at him and said, are you serious? I was, and actually am still incredibly offended. And I said, no I never in my life have taken money for sex, why would it even show that. And he actually said - well, sometimes if someone has a history possibly of molestation, maybe subconsciously it might be effecting the exam and that might explain it. He actually waited for my answer on molestation - which of course was a NO !!

Again, I was offended, he was serious and I told him flat out...there is no way. So he was totally happy in the results regardless - because the highest scoring applicant that cleared all the other hurdles again had a great polygraph - other than the issue with the "sex" question and I was scheduled for training and so on.

Well, I actually left that building and knew - without question that polygraphs are forever questionable. Since I took one and IT failed.

I decided never to work for that department - because of that polygraph. It doesn't work. And they have no right in my opinion to ask that question of the applicants.

Great story OP, those were the good old days:)

How to pass a polygraph test:

Be a psychopath (not in your case)

Drink a lot of water half an hour before the test, so that you feel a light urge to go to the bathroom during the test.

Best...have yourself hypnotized and the original true story replaced by a more acceptable one.

Yes polygraphs can be tricked.

take care

Oh - and at the end of the test. They ask you, have you planned purposely to deceive or alter the test results in any way for this polygraph. Of course I said nope. And that didn't register either. Because obviously I had planned to do just that.

Ahh this also reminds me of another area where we used to drive our motorcycles and it was a huge wide open area bordering my best friends property and it was white sand for miles.
Great for our Honda xr70s.
Well they started construction on that site and one eve we were riding there and they had a little bobcat dozer which they were using for the foundations of what is now known as Golden Lakes Village off of Okeechobee Blvd in west Palm beach.
Well I did the same exact thing to it that I did the dozer, hotwired it and aimed it to a huge lake and that lake is very deep so it sank and dunno if they ever found it.
Its the same lake that the big dinosaur was found at that sits at the palm beach county science museum.

Oh the Good Old Days!! I really enjoyed your story.

Yes, I remember being outside all day long until sunset and even then- it was neighborhood Hide and go seek time. Playing on the farm near us, swimming at "The Hole", tubing down rivers, catching frogs and other animals and bugs. Riding motorcycles. Etc.

The cops were probably laughing their ass's off about it and just thought they would scare you so you did not bother the work site anymore.

What are they going to do to a 12 year old that hot wired and drove the dozen into the lake?

Cops used to be cooler back then too.

OP, I do not doubt for one second that what you say is true but.......the truth is that a POLYGRAPH TEST is only as good as the person operating it and asking the right questions.

Most people who operate them do not have a clue as to what they are doing. especially back in those days but even today many should not even be operating those machines. I can assure you that if you had taken the test operated by a very good, talented person then you would have been caught very easily.

I T totally understand what you are saying but I believe they are still faulty and very much so.
Again are NOT even admissible in court even today but u seen my reply on that above.

I remember the detective that gave me the test was in his 50s and supposedly had many years experience w the polygraph.

West Palm was still a hugely populated area back then but not so much the area I was in in the country part and actually kinda knew the cops and the detectives in passing often just doing daily activities maybe at the convenience store(s) aka the P.D.Q store which were very popular convenience stores back then.
We kids then knew most all the cops and detectives and I can't remember the detectives name that tested me but knew him and he was always a very heavy smoker and was always coughing and had that look of a heavy chain smoker.
As said this is bringing back some kewl memories.

Oh it was back in operation in about a month or so from what I remember and heard it cost the company (insurance) I think was around 10k if my memory serves me correctly.

Oh and to the other poster who said, if I was found guilty what are they gonna do to a 12yo?
Well they would have sued my parents for the money as they would be held the responsible party in a case like that.

Some years back..I took a polygraph for one agency..was told it came back 'inconclusive "..no explanation ..they then had the head of the local police academy ..who was a former FBI polygrapher readminister the test...

He also stated it was inconclusive.. And again they would not discuss or reveal what questions were problematic.Took years before I reapplied to another agency and it was one that did not use polygraph examinations as part of the hiring process.

Needless to say I finally was hired.

I was arrested for a big felony when I was 20 or so. I was innocent however they told me I had failed. Went to trial, all circumstantial evidence. Case was dismissed. I will never take one of them again.
Will we even know we were alive when we're dead? Me

Oh if I failed that polygraph u can dam sure bet they would've been on my ASS as said from what I remember it cost their insurance company around $10k to fix it and if found guilty my parents would've had to foot the bill.

Believe it or not I just told my mom the true story about this about a yr ago, My dad passed away in 97
and she couldn't believe it.

When I was a girl, the neighborhood boys would hang out with the soldiers in the army and they'd talk about techniques for passing a polygraph test, to lie. It was about how they could go into other countries, do a bad deed, as is their role, and then when caught they could lie to their interrogators and escape death.

Things like controlling heart rate, breathing, thinking about what really happened, the delay. They practiced on one another, wires around their chest, tab on their fingers....until they got it right.

That's spyguy 101, how to lie to the enemy.
