She took it to electronic store. They knew nothing about it. But said it needed some kind of receiver to operate. I hope is is just a kid's toy. She is an older woman, and is completely freaked out.

I sell RC toys. I have a whole case of these helicopter toys. This particular toy is infra-red controlled and will only operate within a 10-20 feet circle and in direct line of sight control. It emits NO radio signals of any kind, and can not interfer with your computer. It also only has 2 functions... power on- ascend, and power-off auto glide. It is NOT steerable.

Your friend needs to do a hard off on their laptop and when it they restart it hold shift key with the s key which is the Clean Start for windows.

The computer probably got infected when it was last On Line.

It's crazy cheap op, and as such they lose signal/control while flying. It most likely drifted off when someone was playing with it & found its way to your friends house
