How to reduce irrigation by 95% (“Back to Eden” gardens)

I bought the video for my friends and family to watch. We now use a tree cutting service for our rental properties. They supply us with almost all the mulch we want. I have had 2 full truckloads dumped in front of my house. I no longer have a lawn, I only watered one rose bush 4 times this summer. I live in the foothills of central CA so we have many people on water tanks in their yard. This is spreading fast here in certain areas. Our neighbor has a large lot and has had about 100 truck loads dumped, you can see the steam rising from his property in the AM. He is going to have the best topsoil ever! I absolutely love mulch now that I have used it alot. I even buy the store stuff for color in by front yard as accents. Only a few plants this year due to 7 year rest but plan to really plant again in the upcomming year.
Only problem so far is bermuda grass loves this stuff. I recommend this to everyone to some extent. It is also great to get rid of mud puddles on roads that are not paved.

Paul Gautschi, the gardener in the film, refer a lot to the Bible and God, but the science of this gardening method will fascinate you, religious or not.

I did this method in my garden this year. Best year ever, and no watering!

From what I understand, you only get a nitrogen from woodchips if you incorporate the chips into the soil. In this no-till method, the chips are on top.

i'm going to do this and report back.

1. western australia, you can't get much hotter and dryer than here

2. we get as much free mulch from the council as we want (wood chips etc)

3. a free garden bed ready to plant, and a whole front yard that could be over-sown....

Must have leaf in the chips.

The wood chips can be any species including black walnut and pine. You must have leaf brances mixed in. This is where the nutrients come from.

Little to no water is needed. Watch "L2survive" youtube channel.

He feeds his chickens garden and yard waste and adds chips. Every year or three he screens a layer into the garden in the fall. Layer everthing. All ash from heating goes into chicken yard, egg shells, kitchen waste, ect.

Lay flooring construction paper over grass and use 6 inches of leaf/chip. First year or two needs blood meal fertilizer. Pull back chips and plant in soil, plant gets half a foot, push back chips. Every fall add 6 inches until it builds up. Then as topping if wanted. Continue layering chicken yard soil in garden. The PhD's came and measured the soil. It's 10x - 50× above baseline in nutrients.
