GLP University: What happened to the ability of people to competently be creative in the film and music world?
What happened to the ability of people to competently be creative in the film and music world?

It is evident that is more than a question of changing styles, it is the seeming lack of the creative abilities that were taken for granted in previous decades. i would say it , this loss of the art, came into effect around the the early 200's.

At one time , people in both the movie world and the music world seemed to posses certain gifts associated with both those fields, of an extreme artistic ability to be able to create both music and movies. Yet now it is as if some spell has been put upon people and they have lost whatever that gift was.

Like i say, it is far more than a style difference, there is a complete lack of competence in both the music and movie world. It is baffling, it is like a loos of human gifts and ability somehow has taken place.

If you Compare die another day to the modern James bond films, it is a good example of the loss of the gift.
But it need not be bond movies, you could compare any big movies in the 90's Stallone or die hards, and then compare them with the recent die hard movie. They are no longer movies as we know movies. They neither look like movies nor are the skills of story telling evident. They are empty, devoid of that mysterious element that made movies movies.

This is more than a moaning at modern movies or music, it is a serious question about something strange that has seems to have happened, a kind of taking away of the creative gifts given to certain of of the human race.

Slip away by David bowie

Although this song was released just after 911
In 2001
I think it sums up the question and atmosphere of the strange phenomenon of the slipping away of the creative gifts in the world, that this thread is speaking of,
Not that it is a victim of it itself.

Well yes, but this does not speak of lack of money
It would be the opposite, giving untested talent a break
For how could They be hired if untested talent?
That is what people say is the cure, give talent a break take a risk..
But what you say is happening is just that, for it must be for people to be given the chance but the end product lacks that gift of talent.

And it is not a matter of taste. The plain reality is movies no longer are movies like they were, they just are not , everyone knows this to be true.
Like i say compare late 90's movies to even 70's movies there is a style difference for sure, but there is still that sense of its a movie, now they are bot movies, they just aren't.

It is a mystery.
It is unnerving in fact, this complete loss of the creative gift among humans.

This post is not even arguing about CGI use.
There is a palpable sense of loss within the essence of what was the cinematic art form. Even in the pop corn type of movie . Something very strange has occurred.

And as for those who cant sense it, i am worried for their sensory perception.

true, I chalk most of it up to indie films..the old indie films tried to emulate the big studios, but the new ones don't and there are oodles more indie film makers now...another thing I think has changed..is the pool of writers and even actors..they used to be from what are essentially groups, all had worked together and been around each other for years...I think for the most part its a lot more fractured and cut throat in these arenas now so theres no comraderie, no room to grow and learn and gain knowledge from each other

The knowledge has been lost to the next generation
Not because the old professionals are too old, but because the new technology came and the new generation said we are the only ones who know how to use it, so by that time of boasting about the new tech, the old got to old to pass on the knowledge of how to create real movies and not just how to film them using a computer.?

Still this still does bot explain the mystery , for where is the creative gift..?

Creativity, as in most all other areas of the intellectual sphere has been hijacked to serve the requirements of the establishment.

Nothing new is given permission to throve unless it adheres to the expectations of those who control this dimension, and notjing will reach the masses that goes against this directive.

Originality is only as good as its creator, and the creator is onl free under constraints of the given.

Creativity is dead.

He briefly praised all of us for the success we had achieved in our industry and congratulated us for being selected as part of this small group of “decision makers”. At this point I begin to feel slightly uncomfortable at the strangeness of this gathering. The subject quickly changed as the speaker went on to tell us that the respective companies we represented had invested in a very profitable industry which could become even more rewarding with our active involvement. He explained that the companies we work for had invested millions into the building of privately owned prisons and that our positions of influence in the music industry would actually impact the profitability of these investments.
 Quoting:

The more inmates, the more money the government would pay these prisons. It was also made clear to us that since these prisons are privately owned, as they become publicly traded, we’d be able to buy shares. Most of us were taken back by this. Again, a couple of people asked what this had to do with us. At this point, my industry colleague who had first opened the meeting took the floor again and answered our questions. He told us that since our employers had become silent investors in this prison business, it was now in their interest to make sure that these prisons remained filled. Our job would be to help make this happen by marketing music which promotes criminal behavior, rap being the music of choice.
 Quoting:
