UK National Health Service......Issues anyone?
I just wanted to know if there are any other Brit people having major issues attempting to access the NHS?

I live in Wales and attempting to access free healthcare is next to impossible. 4 members of my immediate family have had to pay for healthcare that has sought from NHS hospitals in England because the hospital in wales will not see them....... we've paid out of sheer desperation.

I had a severe car accident in July and waited in A&E at the local welsh hospital for 8 hours (after being taken by ambulance).... they checked my 9 yr old out who was in the car with me, as he had hit the window and had a terrible black eye. I was in agony in the solar plexus area and the doctor just looked at me (didnt examine me at all) and told me it was a seatbelt injury and sent me home. 5 weeks later i developed a sensation of something stuck in my throat. It is so bad i cant eat solids as when I do i get severe chest pain. I went to A&e and waited 12 and half hours for an x ray. they told me there was something that looked like a fishbone and admitted me to ENT, they then performed surgery and found nothing in my throat. When I woke I could still feel this sensation. I went back to the GP and said that I thought maybe it was a paraesophageal hernia caused by the car accident, the gp was insisting I go back to ENT? I explained that maybe seeing a gastro person might be more beneficial and he refused to allow me to see someone. Because I have now lost 2 stone in weight Ive ended up paying for a private consultation with a gastro person.....its all being sorted by them now but I've worked since I was 16 and paid my national insurance and do not understand why im in the position of having to pay for something that is essentially an emergency??

My 3 year old was seen this time last year in a welsh hospital as they suspect she has a heart murmur, they said they would get a cardiologist to scan her to check where the murmur is located. I received an appointment for today (1year on) and took her thinking it would be for an ultrasound and ecg, however it was a paediatric doctor who wanted to know the outcome of the cardiac appointment which i have never been given an appointment for???

the kids dad broke his hand in two places in a work related accident on friday afternoon. He went to the A&E and waited for 27 hours and had still not been seen,he got the feeling they were waiting for him to give up and leave. he turned up at my house with a cut on his hand where the bone had sort of ripped it open I guess, his finger and thumb were black from an obvious infection running through it. We searched the internet for minor injury units that would be able to x ray him. The only ones available are located just over the border in England. He went to one again out of sheer desperation and they x rayed him, put it in a plaster cast and gave him antibiotics to relieve the infection and got him an appointment in the fracture clinic. They have since invoiced him for all this care and yet the welsh health board are refusing to pay for it???? The english hospital said that had he not turned up on sunday and been given antibiotics he could well have lost his hand.....

I wont even bother going into what is happening with my son......

I feel in the UK that the shit has already hit the fan...... not in the doom sense.....its happening at a much slower pace....... its very very concerning.

At this rate we will run out of money just trying to keep us all alive.....

Anyone else having similar issues?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you are not living in a city?

I believe you wouldn't have the same problems if you did as everything is city-centric to get people to move out of the rural areas.

Maybe you live in a real bad area though. My best suggestion would be to wear a camera and record your attempts then put it on youtube and spread it about.

Thank you for your response and you are correct in saying that we do not live in a city.

Thank you for your advice about recording the conversations and putting them on youtube. I will definitely do this from now on and see if anything comes of it.

I was actually considering moving to England just so I can access healthcare there but for free instead of having to pay for it.

I feel like emailing Jeremy Hunt and asking why exactly am I paying National Insurance and can I have a refund? ha!
