Sounds to me like someone stepped out of line. This is a ploy to get them back. They release a vague news story to the public, then warn the person if they do not play ball, their name will be released.

The question now becomes, will we find out who it is? If they play ball, this will be swept under the rug and nothing more will be said about it and the general public will forget about it in a day or so. If they do not play ball, then the world will know their secret.
