Anyone ever search the sex offender data base around where they live?

I'm in IL, in our state the registry has a picture, basic physical features info and also the crime - and even with a big radius I don't see anyone listed under public indecency.

I think it's rare to be committed as a sex offender for peeing in public. It does happen though, I'm not doubting that at all, but I always wonder if there is more to the story in that kind of situation. Like if your drunk peeing behind a restaurant garbage bin at like 2 in the morning, that's one thing - but if you're drunk and you're peeing in broad daylight where anyone, including kids, can see you, that's another thing -

Its really depressing to see how many there are. Their crimes are absolutely despicable. And we just let these pieces of shit live among us.

Yes, I checked the data base and the guy across the street popped up. Seems he did his daughter. I see police over there from time to time. Must be doing a periodic check-up on him.

In some states, 18 year old bangs his 17 year old girlfriend - statutory rape, sex offender for life.

You can pick out the ones who molest young girls/boys and the ones who piss in public...The ones in texas shows the charges and if they are high risk, how long the sentence they served was and a few other things....

not if parents give consent if she's 18 then they have the Romeo and Juliet laws. (reasonable age range)

Romeo and Juliet laws and clauses concern young adults or teenagers who are a few years apart and have willingly had sexual relations. These provisions relate to state and federal laws regarding statutory rape or sexual assault.

Its unreal...someone who gets caught for a little bit of drugs or gets his 3rd dwi gets 20 years in prison in texas sometimes life...and most the time these damn chomos get out on probation or get a 15 year or less sentence...

There's a difference between incidental and right in their face. Boys and girls learn each other's anatomy easily from the internet, or in health class. Can someone explain to me how this is a big deal? It's not nice, but "not nice" isn't the reason we define certain things as felonies, is it? We all know about rape trauma. Is there evidence that having someone expose their genitals to you can cause significant ongoing trauma? Serious question.

That said, I was on a jury where the state of Florida was trying to give a life sentence to a guy who had allegedly exposed himself intentionally to four or five young children. (Life sentence because it would have been a third strike.)

The case wasn't proved (actually it was very unlikely that he did it) and I could confidently vote not-guilty. We all did and he was acquitted. I didn't have to decide whether to think of nullifying the jury because the penalty was unjust.

Law enforcement gets additional money for arresting "sex offenders". When you give incentive for arrests you are bound to see more. This goes on across the country.

Its like asking the fox to watch the chicken coop. I find it hard to believe that before arrests were given federal grant monies there were less than half the amount of arrests, and those were true arrests, the article below explains how thousands of young men on dating sites are lured by police with a bait and switch.

These guys take a plea because nobody wins in a sex offender case with a jury and they are facing a lot of yrs in prison yet have never even met the person they supposedly offended.

The local state police in Florida are now under investigation by the feds for not looking into valid sex offender tips given to them because its easier to find these law abiding guys on line and arrest them. Quantity over quality! The end result is our sex offender registries are full of harmless guys and the actual bad guys still roam the streets.

I think the registry is a good idea but it's gotten to stupid where they put a lot of people on it that I personally don't think they should be there.

To answer your totally unprincipled rant, showing why we do need some principles in a civilized society:

1. If it's suitable for a classroom, it shouldn't be a crime outside a classroom.

2. I don't think that looking at an old man's dick, or an old woman's cunt, rises to the level of trauma.

3. The offender's history does not determine whether a given act by him or her is a crime, though it can affect the punishment. (3 strikes rule being an example of it.)
