Turkey Says it's Military Shot Down a Russian Fighter Jet After the Aircraft Entered its Airspace

Calling the shootdown a "stab in the back," Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the Russian jet was downed by a Turkish F-16 fighter jet. In a televised statement, Putin also said that the plane "did not in any way threaten Turkey."

The Kremlin is calling this a "very serious incident." The last time a NATO member's armed forces shot down a Russian (or soviet) jet was in the 1950's according to Reuters.
