Scott Weiland, Former Stone Temple Pilots Frontman, Dead at 48


Scott Weiland, best known as the fronton for the Stone Temple Pilots, was found dead on Thursday night. He was 48.

The singer was on tour in Minnesota with his band, the Wildabouts, when he was discovered unresponsive on their tour bus at around 9 p.m., according to multiple media reports. A scheduled show at the Medina Ballroom was then canceled.

In the meantime here's couple of my faves

This sort of reminds me of Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon and Lane Staley from Alice In Chains. These bands are from that same "grunge", early 1990s era. I always remember Scott doing weird things back in their early days and going in and out of rehabs. It seemed to be a never ending saga with Scott. Oh well, that era of music had a lot of deaths, not leaving out Kurt Cobain either. Heroin was central around most of those bands, Jane's Addiction being the most open about their heroin addictions. I have battled opiates on and off for about 25 years and had to come to the conclusion that it just isn't worth it. If I were wealthy, I would probably be dead too. I feel badly for these guys, but I hear of overdoses or arrests every week in small, fascist Augusta, GA.
Hell, the kids on meth down here is way out of control which has started to turn me against harder drugs. I believe cannabis should be freely used, but that is about all these days.

Yes...regarding Shannon Hoon.
Remember Jimmy Chamberlain from Smashing Pumpkins? He OD'd, but survived.

Hell, he was kicked out of SP like Scott was from STP, but James was able to really clean up.

It was quite an era ... out the blue came Nirvana and washed all the Madonnas off the stage and then came bands like STP. I love the memories and the vibe they all gave. I will never outgrow that vibe.

One of the few grunge era bands I actually liked.
