Circa 2004, I was working in Hollywood. There was this announcement on the radio that there was a free Velvet Revolver concert going to happen in a parking lot just a couple blocks from where I worked at the time.

Showed up, got a great spot, and I remember Weiland saying when he was growing up, some of his fav bands used to do free surprise shows and this was just his way of "paying it forward." They did a full set. Fun night.

Kinda wish I had seen STP live with Weiland, but his spirit lives on in the music...

We've seen it way too many times, overdose taking lives.

Gotta be a Believer and have The Lord on your side to survive those temptations.

Rock 'n roll is the best, blues...the best...almost all types of music...the best.

My friends and family are in the music industry for 50+ years. Some did the shit, some chose to pass the on the junk.

Those who did it look like crap...those who passed look young and beautiful at 70+ years of age.

Share your music with the world, leave the shit alone, enjoy life instead of it being robbed from you.

He was great in that movie! He was amazing as the human looking robot. Never knew his name was "Scott" I'll laugh now anytime I see that movie and imagine the space marines calling him Scott.

BTW, my thread isn't to glorify "another rockstar who OD'd" or "tribute" someone who chose this lifestyle.
It's just to remember his music and anything that evokes something from us from those times.

Even the halfwit lot of you should know many artists are their own worst enemy, giving into their dark which drives their talent in the first place.

Music is a "doom break" and a passion for a lot of us here.

It was very sad news to hear today. I was a big fan and I'm glad I got to see STP back in 2010 (or 11 cant remember). Scott is a music legend.

What's odd is the statement given by his wife said he died in his sleep, but I suppose she was being polite in a vague yet accurate way. However, heroin seems to be more likely than coke if you were found dead like that? I don't know.

A troubled man... Loved his singing/vocals from the early 90's with STP - one of my favorite bands growing up... With all of the drugs he's taken it may have been a small miracle that he even lived as long as he did...

The sound is so thin...both his vocals and the band.
The beauty of STP and Weiland, similar to Alice in Chains and Lane Staley, is they were great together. Talent man.

Interesting tidbit I just read....

Joey Castillo, drummer for Scott Weiland's most current band "Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts", was the former drummer for Eagles of Death Metal....the band that was playing during the recent massacre at Paris' Le Bataclan music venue on November 13.

Also, from a May 21, 2015 article on "Loudwire":

"Scott Weiland’s behavior has been a little bizarre of late, with his off-tune performance in Texas and his interesting interview with a North Carolina radio station. So, it wasn’t a surprise that when news broke that Wildabouts drummer Joey Castillo was leaving the group’s tour. People originally thought there was a rift within the band and that Castillo’s departure was permanent. However, that’s not the case. In a statement from Weiland on Facebook, the frontman addresses the former Queens of the Stone Age drummer’s temporary exit from his group. “Just to clear up the confusion – Joey has NOT left the band. He is recording for a week with BL’AST and will meet back up with us on the 27th,” Weiland writes. “I’ve known about this for months, hence lining up our friend Mike Avaneim to fill in.”

I saw STP in concert back in 2000 (they opened for the Chili Peppers), and I was amazed at how good they sounded and how they were able to so accurately reproduce their sound from the early 90's albums (Core & Purple). It's like damn why couldn't you have kept producing music like this after the first two albums!

Are there any youtube vids of live performances from the early/mid 90's? I'm stuck using a cell phone for internet access for awhile and I have limited ability to search youtube....
