I have had many animal companions over the years and look back at all of them with fond memories which still make me laugh today. I am an animal lover. You will grieve and it will pass. Sorry you are sad. I understand. |

Had to put the dog I grew up with down just under a year ago. With his condition, the way he would have gone naturally would have essentially been suffocating from his lungs getting too full of fluid. Easily one of the shittiest experiences of my life. I remember towards the end spending a lot of nights praying he would go in his sleep that night. Even though I 100% know it was the right decision to put him down, ive had a really hard time with it.. SeVeN Saints |

He suddenly started to go downhill Sunday evening, refusing to eat, and not being able to walk. We took him to the Vet early this afternoon, and the x-ray showed he had cancer all through his lungs. The Vet said he had a couple of hours, maybe a few hours until he passed away. We refused euthanasia, as he was going quickly. He did get a pain shot before we left. We brought him home to die with his family. He died peacefully a little over 4 hours after we got home, without any pain, as we all held him. Quoting: tiger1 Yeah, he was just a dog, but he was a cherished member of our family. He was also the ears for Sheba our other dog, who is totally deaf. Casey had been her constant companion for the past 11 years, ever since we brought Casey home from the Humane Society Shelter, after our other dog, Rufus, died. Rufus was also Sheba's ears and her constant companion. Sheba has now outlived both of her best buddies. Poor Sheba is in shock, and just staring into space. My husband is devastated, as Casey was his buddy too. My kids are inconsolable, and blast it, I can't quit crying. We will bury Casey in our yard in the morning, right by Rufus and our late Fluffy Kitty, close to the Elm tree. We will donate Casey's arthritis meds and toys to a Vet Clinic that does sliding scale services for low income pet owners. RIP Casey. You will meet at the Rainbow Bridge. I join you in celebrating the love and life of your dear Casey. Maggie, ours, live to 13 -- an English bulldog -- died in August. I still and will always, I think, tear up on consideration of her passing. Death is like a blanket in which to rest. Tell Casey he did well. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 70983976 Australia 12/08/2015 04:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Lost my childhood dog and constant companion of 12 years into my adulthood back in September. His death prompted me to move house. I know deep down in my heart he was likely poisoned by the, uh, 'dark skinned individuals" over the back. And I will get my revenge. My thoughts with you OP and everybody else on this thread wh has lost their best friend. Mine was not ever just a dog to me. I am an only child and I spent all my school years a loner and a victim of bullies. He was my buddy. More than that, he was my brother. His death has torn my heart out and all in my family's heart out. I know my mother considered our Ben as her son. And she is taking it hard. Even the vet and all the vet nurses cried as me and my grandfather had to do the unimaginable by taking his body there. That was dreadful and seeing his eyes completely vacant, mouth all hanging out, that will haunt me forever. He was not my Ben anymore, he just looked like a dead animal, like a shrew run over at the side of the road. It has really disturbed me. Death is not pretty. Especially not to non-human animals. At least in many cases people still look somewhat as they appeared when alive. But dogs and cats end up looking like roadkill. I will never get over this. My heart is completely torn. I would get another dog to put love into him also but do I really want to put myself through this all over again? No, I don't. So I don't think I will ever have another pet after Ben. |

I'm so sorry for your loss. I can not even bring myself to tell the tale of how I lost my friend of 16 years.....almost half my life at the time ( he passed in 2010). The story is just too horrific to relive by typing it. But there are so many animals in NEED. I would urge you to reconsider. Be strong. So many tiny souls are out there right now that are desperate and I mean DESPERATE!! For many they face another night sleeping in a cold cell or cage with no attention, no grass to run in and no affection to give or receive. For others, the only thing standing between them and a gas chamber is the kind soul who is willing to make a place in their home and heart for them. Please consider saving a life. It's always worth the heartache, especially for the one you rescue Last Edited by Sammie on 12/08/2015 05:48 AM "Beware lest you lose the substance by grasping at the shadow". ~Aesop "Once in a dream I saw a snake swallowing its own tail, it swallowed and swallowed until it got halfway round, and there it stopped and there it stayed, it was stuffed with its own self. Casey Is Your Guardian Angel "I know that you must miss me, By the tears rolling down your face. But believe me when I tell you that, I'm in a very good place. There are meadows here to run in, And plenty of rabbits to chase. There are other dogs to play with, To frolic with and race. So please don't worry about me, My spirit feels light as can be. There's no more pain to plague me, I'm young again and free. And I'll be watching over you still, of that you can be sure. I'm your canine guardian angel, And my love for you remains pure." -- Author unknown. |
