I haven't left my front porch more than 5 times..since January. Four of those times, were to buy beer at the local Chevron.

I haven't had to face the facemask world yet..and I'm not sure how I'll handle it, when and if I do.

Re: Mad World
I'm just really weirded out by the furiosity of those who have just accepted the new norm.

Masks to me, literally feels/looks like a burka.

One of the most disconcerting aspects I've seen, is how the papparazi are still following and taking pictures of celebrities, wearing masks.

You can't see their faces..but still the images are being taken and published. Often with bandanas or the like, that don't do a damn thing. Why are they wearing them?

Most the ads I see on different sites..are for different kinds of face masks that would do nothing other than cover the face.

I don't get it and it feels very dangerous, psychologically.

What good does tying a bandana around the face do..other than conceal identity?

Asians did it as a courtesy when they were sick. Putting face masks on healthy people, makes no sense.

Thread: Chinese 'gait recognition' tech IDs people by how they walk
Chinese authorities have begun deploying a new surveillance tool: "gait recognition" software that uses people's body shapes and how they walk to identify them, even when their faces are hidden from cameras.

Already used by police on the streets of Beijing and Shanghai, "gait recognition" is part of a push across China to develop artificial-intelligence and data-driven surveillance that is raising concern about how far the technology will go.

Thread: Democratic 2020 Candidate Wants Government-Sponsored ‘Social Credit’ System Comparable To China’s

New York entrepreneur and Democratic 2020 candidate Andrew Yang wants to implement a system in which a government-run mobile app rewards Americans with “digital social credits” (DSCs) for good behavior.

Americans would receive DSCs under Yang’s system for things such as “participating in a town fair,” “fixing a neighbor’s appliance” or “tutoring a student,” his presidential campaign website explains.

“As individuals rack up DSCs, they would have both a permanent balance they’ve earned over their lifetime and a current balance. They could cash the points in for experiences, purchases with participating vendors, support for causes, and transfer points to others for special occasions,” Yang states on his website. “As their permanent balance gets higher, they might qualify for various perks like throwing a pitch at a local ballgame, an audience with their local Congressperson or meeting their state’s most civic-minded athlete or celebrity.”

“The most socially detached would be the most likely to ignore all of this,” he added. “But many people love rewards and feeling valued.”

Yang’s social credit plan bears some similarities to the social credit system implemented by China’s authoritarian government.

Every citizen in China is assigned a social credit score that determines whether they can buy plane or train tickets.

I think you're missing the point. Any system only works if a majority subscribe to it.

Our current corptocracy is only 70 years into its run and subsists on socialzing losses and privatizing gains while the political system runs interference.

Its main proponents are a dwindling entitlement class mercenaries; whom, at this juncture, should know how far any promises for services will carry.

China has a croney class of 25%.

That's true. Be near impossible to drive safely if everyone didn't follow driving rules. We all do it, because we understand the risk that not following the rules entails, not just to self, but innocent other people just going about their day.

This is similar in a sense that it is an act of 'keeping people safe'..but a bandana and the like that are being sold, are face coverings and not medical masks.

Like..if your seatbelt was crocheted out of loose threads..and would only protect the wearer symbolically and not in a high speed collision.

I don't know. I feel like this has to do with teaching the AI to recognize people, even if their faces are covered. Maybe because they know that when more people rebel against the total surveillance that is sliding into place..they will discard their phones due to tracking but the AI and cameras will still be able to identify them.

I think it's plausible..and along the same line China was working toward with Skynet and facial recognition AI.
