We had Grammy's social distance 100th birthday party in July..because how can a family NOT celebrate a 100th birthday party..but do so during a pandemic to put her(and everyone else) at the least risk possible?

It worked. It works.

My SIL was even more neurotic about it than I was during camping..but has more experience than I do..having to social distance her family. I understood and tried to comply to her wishes as much as I could.

Not having to worry about that..with just us would be nice. We're looking at a few places.

After literally begging for months for him to take me camping..he's suddenly into it.

I couldn't be more grateful.

Normally we'd be crazy slammed right now with business..stressed to breaking point.

Not this year. The rest of this year I hope to spend doing things I never imagined I'd be able to..until I was retired.

I have a great picture of him in the blanket igloo. It's his thing.

Wow! Happy belated birthday to her. It’s great that you were able to celebrate such a special occasion.

I can see why camping just the 3 of you would be much more relaxing. Practicing social distancing, with children, can be challenging.

I’m so happy for you, that he’s finally come around on the topic. Enjoy your time off, it’s well deserved :)

It's difficult to imagine everything she has lived through and not feel humbled.

They're in their teens now..my nephew start University in the Fall in a much different way than any of us..ever have. I don't think they should be charged full tuition by any means..as online learning..is not the same as being on campus day n and day out.

It's a different world. He's a great kid either way and will rise whatever challenge regardless.

Agree. After some of the campgrounds opened here and he was still adamant against..I gave up trying.

All it took was his older brother to suggest/invite. That was enough.

Thanks. I hope to. :)

I've been purposely training myself to break from the Internet nearly every night at 5pm for the last month. Going 2 days without completely..and then repeating that..will help to further break from it.

Like quitting smoking..you stop thinking about it..for 5 minutes, 20 minutes..30 minutes..an hour..2 hours..4 hours! A day..

I know how addiction works. I know how to break it. I just need the reason to do it.

For me it is going somewhere else..where I am saturated in something else.

 Quoting: Seer777

Dopamine-driven feedback loop

Dopamine is associated with “seeking” behavior. It works to motivate people to seek out food, information and entertainment, among myriad other commodities and experiences. Once a target is achieved, the brain’s opioid system delivers a chemical reward that we experience as pleasure.

Through experiencing this cycle repeatedly, people and other animals learn to anticipate pleasure from seeking, which perpetuates the loop.

Social media use provides a good model of the dopamine feedback loop. The search for information or entertainment drives people to scroll through their Facebook newsfeeds, for example, in anticipation of pleasure when something interesting pops up.

It’s not necessary that there are a great number of interesting items in the feed because, as in operant conditioning, an intermittent reinforcement schedule is the most effective for maintaining target behavior. In this case, the desired behavior is keeping people scrolling as long as possible. The feedback loop also manifests through posts, as people post anticipating responses and are rewarded by Likes and other reactions.

I'm only about 4 minutes in..but recalls of this post from some days back..

Thread: Mnuchin — ‘No more paying people to stay home from work!’ (Page 4)

What people need to understand is, that all venues are closed to large groups. Concerts. Meetings. Weddings. Funerals.

This cancels out enormous portions of local economies and anything to do with entertainment. Restaurants. Movie Theaters. Bars. Clubs. Theme parks. Cruise ships.

Sports. Schools. Domestic and International travel. Tourism.

It touches entire economies and towns, and cities that revolve around their teams, colleges, universities, festivals, town fairs..

When you see it, you can't unsee it.
 Quoting: Seer777

tourism/travel is not coming back. I played the PPP game
I had hope at first, now I know...
Wish we had decided to just go full Unemployment 4 mos ago. I would have saved quite a bit more.

Now I am considered a pariah of society because I am now unemployed (7.31.20).
I've paid in to this system for 40 years (never unemployed)
I need the extra $ to survive.

still not what I was earning.
1200 is not even 1 paycheck, so I now get to burn through my savings.
peace
 Quoting: Soup

Sorry to hear it. It's been a special kind of Hell for most of us..

All our venues shutdown totally, starting in March. We were having our shows in July and October, canceled in May. There was no choice.

So did our state. We were the second in the Nation if I recall correctly. Maybe third..

Portland doesn't reflect Oregon.

A lot of people are suffering but grinning and bearing it. It's good to understand that and have compassion for the real people that the Web attempts to meme.

Interesting dream. Here is more pear symbolism.

“Pears are ancient and sacred symbols of love and separation. In Chinese, the word “fen li” means “sharing a pear”, which is pronounced the same way as the word meaning “separation.”

In Greek mythology, the pear tree was sacred to Hera, mother of the Olympian gods. As the goddess of marriage and childbirth, she could also be jealous and vengeful. Hera was known as Hera Apios, apios is Greek for “pear tree”. Idols of her were carved from pear wood.”
