I had an iguana for a time as a teen. Totally worthless pet in my opinion and let me know I wasn't cut out to be a reptile keeper.

But I'm still adjusting to my own particular 'new normal'. Which is, once back at work, disallowed overtime and thus actually having nights off on the weekend. Hanging a mount for a screen in a glade took much less time than expected, and well, after that's done and their lunch (my dinner) has been served and from a beer run returned, I'm just not tired in the slightest.
You are correct, from all I've come to know in what you've experienced and heard about iguanas and geckos.
Leopard geckos are popular pets for good reason, and it goes beyond being sweet. They're inquisitive, contemplative, eager for interaction, and just about as low maintenance a pet as possible. My inseparable feline sibling pair of Brains and Moon really loved interacting with her too. And they even bark sometimes :)
But the best part is when holding them, you can boop them with your nose, and they'll give ya a lick.
At least those are the impressions Newt left on me. She lived to be sixteen.
