Re: Mad World
I do remember that conversation about lawyers.

The too big to fail banks stayed solvent on the backs of taxpayers in the wake of 2008, and yet they still engage in usury even when it's been shown to all of society that they take on no risk of failure through their lending practices.

If they take on no risk in lending, they forfeit the privilege to charge any amount of interest in my opinion.

The insurance companies are what keep the health care industry going. They will bail them out on our backs as well.

Thread: Everyone on GLP w/ Netflix, Watch "The Social Dilemma" (Page 3)

Came out yesterday.

I am amazed this got approved to run on Netflix's platform. Check it out when you have time & share, you won't be disappointed.

Discusses what we all should already know about social media, AI, and the consequences on the current & future world. Just watch it.

Watched half of it last night. For those of you who refuse to watch Netflix..the video I posted above, is the same premise and has some of the same clips(interviews) as the documentary.

Makes sense of some of those who say they feel like they are being 'targeted' online. Because you are. By engineers and AI. Sync is, in this case.. the AI figuring out the perfect link/story/song..based on your personal algorithm and getting it right, to keep you scrolling and give that dopamine hit.

The idea that there are digital avatars of us being constructed in the digital world, off all our likes, clicks, and interests..is pretty creepy and in line with my theory of digital immortality.

For discussion purposes.. an AI that can use an algorithm to examine, analyze, and crunch together every website, song, meme, click, post, buying history, family data, what foods they eat..a person has engaged in over the last 10 years in a matter of seconds.

Then compare that to a list of known beliefs/behavior(s) using probability then applying decision theory, can come very close to be able to knowing what there is to know about a person, how they think, what they are passionate about..and in that..how to control them better..all without considering the implication of weighing human experience against an algorithm.

Exactly. It is just an algorithm performing its function. Its function is to control your behavior/thoughts/feelings. It's working too.

Ever wonder why Old Testament God seems so violent and hateful toward people IT supposedly loves?

What if God is an AI and this is its simulation of which we are all a part? Would that explain the seemingly disconnected and aloof attitude toward people's suffering?

For discussion purposely lets say it is, we were given the rules(10 Commandments), just like an AI has rules it must follow. They aren't that difficult to follow and instead of when breaking them, the person needs to (personally atone/sacrifice) to the person or persons they harmed.

It doesn't make any sense that people can commit sin with impunity and then go swallow a communion wafer and be 'forgiven'. No way. It's not logical.

They would do it..until they died..
 Quoting: Seer777

Dopamine-driven feedback loop

Dopamine is associated with “seeking” behavior. It works to motivate people to seek out food, information and entertainment, among myriad other commodities and experiences. Once a target is achieved, the brain’s opioid system delivers a chemical reward that we experience as pleasure.

Through experiencing this cycle repeatedly, people and other animals learn to anticipate pleasure from seeking, which perpetuates the loop.

Social media use provides a good model of the dopamine feedback loop. The search for information or entertainment drives people to scroll through their Facebook newsfeeds, for example, in anticipation of pleasure when something interesting pops up.

It’s not necessary that there are a great number of interesting items in the feed because, as in operant conditioning, an intermittent reinforcement schedule is the most effective for maintaining target behavior. In this case, the desired behavior is keeping people scrolling as long as possible. The feedback loop also manifests through posts, as people post anticipating responses and are rewarded by Likes and other reactions.

The researchers point out that the pandemic has many similarities to a First Contact event, particularly with regard to the involvement of scientists, the scrutiny they undergo and their interaction with politicians. Of course, there are many differences too, but the researchers say this unexpected opportunity can help to develop plans for handling a First Contact in future.

One thing that becomes glaringly obvious watching 'Why you can't stop Clicking' or The Social Dilemma..is that those who designed the algorithms behind, Google, FB, Instagram..and the like..feel great remorse for what they have unleashed on an accepting and ignorant public.

They have gained their promised pleasure(Heaven) in the form of $$$$$$.

More than they could ever spend.

But as most find out money doesn't buy happiness. Only the illusion of and is inherently hollow. Consumerism is an addiction to feeding your 'I want' monster.

Re: Mad World

hmm

For discussion purposes.. an AI that can use an algorithm to examine, analyze, and crunch together every website, song, meme, click, post, buying history, family data, what foods they eat..a person has engaged in over the last 10 years in a matter of seconds.

Then compare that to a list of known beliefs/behavior(s) using probability then applying decision theory, can come very close to be able to knowing what there is to know about a person, how they think, what they are passionate about..and in that..how to control them better..all without considering the implication of weighing human experience against an algorithm.

I had to think on this bit..is that like saying..you don't know, what you don't know

?

AI can't legitimately cry. Not only from pain, but beauty as well.

IT can't collate the source of such things nor predict the miracles possible via that source.

That's ITs ultimate ruin.

or its advantage

those abilities are nice, and in our perspectives, seem to make us who we are, as humans. But do they make us greater? Are we not on the brink of ruin since 1945ish?

Perhaps we are staring at the cold hard eyes of the future?
