(OP) Ride the wings of the mind User ID: 79836353 United States 03/10/2021 01:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It does make sense that evolution would solve for human sociopathy. If it was sentient in the manner that it cuts out undesirable potentials in a form of symbiosis. Quoting: Seer777 Do humans need a super predator to behave? I suppose that is the question we have to ask ourselves when we ask Pascal's Artificial Intelligence Wager. 'Do no harm'..shut down its function completely. In that, lies the truth. Pascal’s Artificial Intelligence Wager Quoting: Seer777 In 2008 European physicists at CERN were on the verge of activating the Large Hadron Collider to great acclaim. The LHC held the promise of testing precise predictions of the most important current theories in physics, including finding the elusive Higgs Boson (which was indeed successfully confirmed in 2012). However, some opponents of CERN’s activation raised an almost laughable objection, encapsulated in a lawsuit against CERN from the German chemist Otto Rossler, that switching the LHC on might create a miniature black hole and destroy the Earth. In response, most physicists dismissed the chances of such a catastrophe as extremely unlikely, but none of them declared that it was utterly impossible. This raises an important practical and philosophical problem: how large does a probability of an activity destroying humanity need to be in order to outweigh any potential benefits of doing it? How do we even begin to weigh a plausible risk of destroying all humanity against other benefits? [link to philosophynow.org (secure)] Image: [link to philosophynow.org (secure)] Quoting: Seer777 The main insight from Pascal relevant to the debate about AI is this: any probability of infinite losses will always outweigh any possible finite gains. To modify the idea slightly, we can add the qualification that the probability of an event must cross some plausibility threshold to be considered. Rossler’s worry about the LHC creating a black hole that swallows the Earth may not qualify as a plausible existential risk, while AI could. And according to Pascalian reasoning, once an event crosses into being a plausible risk of entailing infinite losses, we must assign it infinitely negative expected value, and act against it. Using this as standard, the Anti-Natalist argument against AI looks like this: 1. If an event has a plausible likelihood of infinite losses then its risk outweighs any finite expected benefits. 2. AI destroying humanity would be an infinite loss. 3. There’s a plausible likelihood that AI will destroy humanity. Conclusion: Therefore, the potential risks of AI outweigh any potential benefits. I find each of these premises, and so the argument itself, extremely credible. [link to philosophynow.org (secure)] There is good reason to consider if there is a "Creator God' it lives in fear of what it has created..for the same reason we fear AI rising up to destroy us. It would be impossible to pull the plug on a super-intelligent machine that wanted to control the world and harm humans, scientists warn in paper on the development of AI Quoting: Seer777 Experts created a theoretical containment algorithm for this study This was done by simulating the AI's behavior and blocking to from doing harm During the experiment, the team found the algorithm was unable to halt the AI The command to do no harm inadvertently halt the algorithm’s own operations The idea of an artificial intelligence (AI) uprising may sound like the plot of a science-fiction film, but the notion is a topic of a new study that finds it is possible and we would not be able to stop it. A team of international scientists designed a theoretical containment algorithm that ensures a super-intelligent system could not harm people under any circumstance, by simulating the AI and blocking it from wrecking havoc on humanity. However, the analysis shows current algorithms do not have the ability to halt AI, because commanding the system to not destroy the world would inadvertently halt the algorithm’s own operations. User ID: 73137699 United Kingdom 03/10/2021 01:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Ceramic Model – The Universe as artifact Quoting: aether This is the model that has carried over from the Judeo-Christian tradition. In this model, one sees the world as constructed or made- particularly by a supreme God, be it an Intelligent designer or Yahweh himself. The Biblical Narrative in the first few chapters of Genesis describes how the world came in to being. When God made man, he formed him out of the earth and breathed life ‘in’ to him. This idea has left many westerners with the idea that the world was manufactured by God, and our essential being (soul, spirit, atman, etc…) was brought ‘in to’ the world. The Fully-Automatic Model – The Universe as dumb energy and random cause & effect. When science began to take precedence over religion, it became harder for people to believe in the God of the Ceramic Model. They saw no evidence of his craftsmanship, because the signs were pointing to natural selection and evolution. Intelligent design became too hard to believe. The Organic Model – The Universe as organism. The Chinese don’t see their lives/souls as coming ‘in to’ the world, but rather ‘out of’ the world. For example, a common question that a western child will ask her parents is, “Mommy, how was I made?” A Chinese child would not ask, “How was I made?” But, she might as her mother, “How was I grown?” Everything we see, hear, touch and taste has come out of the world – not in to it. It is assumed that when people believe that their ‘self’ was cast in to a human body on this earth, they see the unsatisfactory events in life as being unfair. They didn’t choose this life. Nobody asked them if they wanted to be born. But when if we believe that we are in fact a part of the world, coming forth from it, we are motivated to work with the ways of the world (what the Taoist calls establishing Wu-Wei). Realizing the interdependence of the whole Universe, we are able to see where we fit in it and how to work with it. |
