The sexual repression/tension was very real and back then everything was actually probably based on underlying sexual tension like freud said. Interesting how culture shapes psychology in such essential ways. Now that "it's not real" (magic), nobody cares about witches - it's "cute" The Victorian era was a time where/when this was in every parlor in the land. I suggest you look up the Belleville sisters and a place called Lilydale. Then I suggest you look at the surveys as to how many women were prostitutes in the big cities.
