Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 69024664 United States 12/26/2015 12:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey GLP, Quoting: No EAT 69024664 Just got back from my bank... Strange vibe in there. I had a check to deposit so I decided to go in. Was greeted there by a strange lady who insisted she would help me and not to wait in line like the others. She should me the new ATM type machines that are going to effect for next year. She informed me that it "could disburse not just dollars???" WAIT WHAT? Then she took my check looked at it and asked if I planned to just cash it or if I was going to keep it in my account for awhile?? WTH??? What is she fishing for? After I got depositing she asked me to follow her to her cubicle to get "a new card with a chip in it?" I said no and walked out-before I got out the door she said "don't worry looks the new card will be mailed soon anyways??" What the heck is going on?? Anyone else have anything similar? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 70798733 United States 12/26/2015 12:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The only odd thing you mentioned that happened to me OP is the new chipped card. I didn't even request a new debit card, I just got mail one day that said my old card will be deactivated and to use this new chipped card for security purposes. I just figured it was better account security, but get this: Now instead of swiping my card, I have to leave it in ATMs, machines, etc until the transactions are complete .. Weird huh? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 54153621 United States 12/26/2015 01:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Most banks here have a 'greeter' that you see as soon as you enter. They've been known to ask questions that I don't think is their concern, and have let them know it. I don't need to give a reason why I don't want to open an account. Funny thing is, everytime I say that, it takes longer for my check to get cashed. I even had tellers call the customer to make sure I wasn't a fraud, even though I always have proper identification. Just because I don't play their fucking little games. Fuck 'em. |

THe ATM machines can do basic operations like print statement, pay in checks etc Then they can replace bank tellers with the machines. One person can look after 4 or 5 machines. Edit: Picture [link to i.dailymail.co.uk] A bit like self service checkouts in supermarkets. Last Edited by lightchild_uk on 12/26/2015 01:45 PM |

Apparently they are safer to use, less easy for fraudsters to copy the info than from a magnetic strip. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 541264 United States 12/26/2015 01:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The "chip" has been around for a little while. I have one in my debit card. It is a new card technology that prevents fraud with the magnetic stripe. Eventually magnetic stripes will be phased out and replaced with the chips and chip readers. |

Weird huh? The old school atms used to suck the cards in too - too many forgot cards though. If you ever had a problem with your account it would keep the card. It didn't even play a song or do anything cute - just card gone. |
