I would like to look at this verse in Daniel 8 from another angle:

And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground:
Perhaps this is not military might, but the US led sanctions imposed on Iran over the years.
We know the sanctions created an economic hardship for Iran, and some believe Iran would have faced economic collapse had they continued.
I've been covering the antichrist in detail - starting from this page:

Here's why:
The antichrist is the little horn of Daniel 7 and 8.
All the people listed have a kingdom today or had a kingdom...
The little horn's kingdom will be the Beast's kingdom or the new world order.
He won't appear until after the Goat's horn has been split into 4 nations-Dan 8
Many believe the Assyrian to be the antichrist, however I don't.
He was God's rod - a tool in God's hands. The antichrist was given a bow-Rev 6
The antichrist is killed by Jesus, The Assyrian by God.
They are killed in different locations....
Paul in 2 Thes 2 says he won't be revealed until he stands in the temple and declares he is God...
It obviously can't take place until we have a 3rd temple - and there hasn't been a temple since 70AD.
Jesus also said - he will stand in the "holy place"; the one spoken of by Daniel the prophet.
Well, same reason - no temple after 70AD.
Therefore, It most certainly hasn't happened since the death of Jesus, or Paul.
It's clear this was a future event when Jesus and Paul spoke of this "temple", because Jesus said "when you SEE the evil one in the holy place from a field...":
Mathew24:15
When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place...
18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
That capability only existed in the last few years with smartphones....
There are many more reasons why the leaders of today are not the antichrist..will leave that for a future discussion.
