There is a big difference between the inner city council estates of flats that have never been properly maintains that and low density council estates of eg. bungalows [link to cdn.spectator.co.uk] that's more like LA.

A lot of California ghettos like Compton used to be middle class White suburbs before the coloreds moved in and ruined them.

I think what you're really doing is comparing the UK to America. In general compared to America everything across the puddle is smaller, older and in worse over all shape.

Also I think what you are showing in the pictures of the UK is what we call "the projects". Low income housing built specifically for the poor.

We do have that here but many ghettos are just the old middle class neighborhoods left to fall into disrepair and to have too many ppl living in them than originally designed. They're 50 and sixty years old houses which by American standards is a very old house if you don't spend the money to remodel and update\modernize them.

Most simply move out and buy a newer home in a better neighborhood when property values decrease and crime start to increase. Leaving the once proud homes to be bought up by !landlords on the cheap and rented. Making a new ghetto eventually.

US houses are bigger than UK ones, more space for building means more spread out and less condensed. Also, London is a capital city, LA is a provincial city.
